Mashburn Elementary Blue Bear Notes
December 11, 2015
This is a great time of year to reflect on all of the great things that have happened in your family in 2015. In our house meeting and in our classrooms we are reflecting on all of our Mashburn happenings too! One of the activities we are participating in is creating school-wide norms. Norms are expected behaviors that form a foundation for our school. These norms are based off of our Mashburn 20 and the 7 Mindsets. You may want to create family norms! Eat together at least three times a week, read one book before bed, never say mean words to each other, and always say I love you are all examples of family norms. As we create these expected behaviors for Mashburn think about what an impact it could also have on your family!
The Mashburn Maniacs participated in a practice competition this past Saturday at Whitlow Elementary. We are so proud of our whole Science Olympiad Team who represented themselves with the actions of champions! We had some students earn medals and wanted to celebrate with you:
Calvin Washburn/ Noah Grimes = 2nd Place Elements Compounds and Mixtures
Lauren Smith / Irelan McCormick = 1st Place Mystery Architecture
Riley Clark / Esther Smith = 2nd Place Save our Earth
Owen Merwarth / Caroline Heard = 1st Place Simple Machines
Irelan McCormick / Brock Guello = 2nd Place Straw Tower
Ally Martz / Lauren Smith = 3rd Place Weather or Not
Congratulations to the Mashburn Robotics Teams! Both teams participated in the Forsyth Regional FLL Robotics Tournament last weekend. The teams placed 5th and 6th out of 25 teams in robot missions and will both advance to the Super Regional competition in Warner Robins, Georgia in January.
Mashburn's Got Talent
Mashburn's Got Talent will be January 14 and 15. Let's see our Blue Bear talent: singing, dancing, poetry, musical instruments, and skits! Sign-up sheets will go home in the Friday Folder. We will limit repeat acts and ask for a brief summary of talent and costume prior to show.
Grades K-2 will perform on Thursday, January 14 6PM-7PM, and grades 3-5 will perform on Friday, January 15 6PM-7PM. Please click here to access the sign-up form. Please contact Maryclaire Powell (firstname.lastname@example.org) for more information.
Forsyth County Technology Fair
The 2016 Tech Fair will be held on January 30, 2016 at Whitlow Elementary School. Registration is now open until January 8. The fair is open to students in grades 3 through 12. Many of you already have a technology project you've completed for class that could easily be turned into an entry for the Tech Fair. Sample categories include 3D modeling, Animated Graphic Design, Digital Photography, Digital Video Production, Game Design, Programming, and Multimedia Applications just to name a few. Please visit the Mashburn website for more information and all the details you need in order to participate. Although registration is $10 per student, an entire student body can participate for a sponsorship of $200. Please contact Kim Lochbaum at email@example.com or Tracey Smith at firstname.lastname@example.org if your business would be interested in sponsoring Mashburn Elementary at the Tech Fair.
Will We Have "Snow Days" This Year?
ATLANTA GLADIATORS SING WITH SANTA
Parents, if your child is coming to Sing With Santa at the Gladiators game, you will need to be at the arena by 6pm and look for Mr. Anderson (come in the main doors and go to the left, outside of section 119 and look for the “M” sign). Please remember to wear your chorus t-shirts and bring your antlers! It’s still possible to get tickets for this super fun event - you can call them directly at 770-497-5117, ask for Mike Miller and tell them you are with Mashburn. You do not have to have children in the chorus to receive the discount, which is $8 off the normal ticket price.
