Dear Lone Star Families,
We are wrapping this unusual school year and almost ready to put it in the history books. We have a few more traditions scheduled next week like Kinder graduation and Fifth grade celebrations. Also scheduled is the event that has caused more nervous giggles and awkward silences for fifth graders. The dreaded "Puberty Talk" is scheduled next week during 5th grade P.E. time on M-Th. We sent home permission forms the end of April and again this week to students that we have not received them back yet. There seems to be several students from each homeroom that have "lost" or not given it to their parents. I will email these families the info and parents can watch the videos with their own child. Below is the link to the Always Changing-About You Program
I will be showing the videos that start with a group of kids playing hangman. I will show the girls the one specifically for them and same for the boys. Then, we will have a question time. There are anonymous question boxes in the 5th grade language arts teacher's classrooms. Questions about body changes will be answered. Any sex questions will be referred to the parent. No power point slides will be shown or handouts given. The school is only beginning the conversation. Parents are the best teachers for these sensitive topics.
My grown daughters, only 18 months apart, are total opposites to this day. My oldest daughter, timid in many ways, plugged her ears when I initiated these topics with her privately. Her sister asked extremely awkward random questions of me and her dad that would cause us to choke on our food during dinners with extended family.
Please return the signed permission forms after you have spoken to your child and decided what is best for y'all.

Weekly COVID Positive Case Notification (May 10 - 14)
Dear Lone Star Elementary Parents and Staff,
During the week of May 10-14, we were not notified about any positive COVID-19 test for individuals in our building.
A close contact is defined as someone within 6 feet of the individual for 15 minutes or longer without protective face coverings or someone who was directly exposed to infectious secretions. We feel it is our responsibility to keep our parents and staff informed as much as possible during this time. Disinfecting of the building continues to happen on a nightly basis. Teachers and staff are diligently cleaning commonly touched surfaces throughout the day according to TEA Guidelines.
We are taking every step possible to stop the spread to others. If you are experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, we strongly encourage you to consult with your health care provider and communicate with your campus nurse. We will continue to monitor the situation and report required information to the Montgomery County Health Department.
Sincerely,
Lone Star Elementary Administration
