'Book Tasting' in Mrs. Hunt's Class
Mrs. Hunt's Class held an exciting 'Book Tasting' event. This purpose of the event was to excite and inform our peers about amazing books they should read.
Students prepared book 'menu's' for books they had read over the summer. The menu included key literary aspects such as a book summary as the 'main course'. They were then able to 'taste' each others book menus to create a list of books they want to read this year.
Ms. Smith Visits Classrooms
PBIS at Winston Campus Elementary establishes clear expectations of behaviors needed for our students to be successful. The Winston Campus Elementary PBIS matrix for expected behaviors focuses on the areas of respect for self/others, respect for the school environment, and respect for learning. These behavioral expectations are explicitly taught, modeled, and reinforced across all settings by all school personnel. These efforts create a school environment that supports effective academic and social/emotional instruction for all students.
Ms. Smith has been visiting each classroom to review the three core values at Winston Campus Elementary School, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe. Classrooms have also discussed that at Winston Campus, we Expect Respect. We teach students that if someone treats you or someone else in a way that feels disrespectful, we use our stop sign and tell the person to STOP. We also teach students that if someone tells you to stop, it is our expectations that you STOP and WALK away.
During these classroom visits, students participate in a read aloud of the story, 'The Day You Begin' by Jacqueline Woodson with Ms. Smith. I encourage you to talk with your child about their classroom visit!
WCE Behavior Matrix
We have the highest expectations for all of our students and staff and we live by our core beliefs, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe. Over the summer, Winston Campus Elementary received the highest recognition with the Midwest PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) Network of schools. We have been recognized for our work toward fully implementing a framework that leads to improved student outcomes. The framework helps to increase consistency of instruction, enhances staff skills, proactively provides supports for learners, and builds stronger relationships with students across all levels of the school.
Please review our schools behavior matrix with your child!
