JURISolutions' July Employee Newsletter

As many of you know, JURISolutions is certified by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) as a Women-Owned Business. WBENC’s National Conference and Business Fair was held in Austin, Texas two weeks ago and a number of us were fortunate enough to attend. While WBENC always puts on a great conference filled with an abundance of business opportunities, this year was particularly special for me because I was asked to be a mentor in WBENC’s esteemed Student Entrepreneur Program (SEP).

This program fosters growth for the next generation of women-owned businesses and it was such a thrill to work with these bright young women who have so much energy and enthusiasm for the future. My mentee, Gaby Hernandez, was nothing short of exceptional and I cannot wait to see all that she will accomplish. I extend sincere thanks back to WBENC for this wonderful program and for allowing me to get an up-close glimpse of this country’s future.

Protect your skin this summer

With the temperatures quickly rising, we find ourselves wearing shorter sleeves and bottoms, and spending more time outdoors. While soaking up the sun is relaxing, not being careful about how much time you spend outside could cause you some stress in the future. If you're spending time outdoors, make sure to take the following safety measures:

- Seek shade, especially between 10am and 4pm.
- Teach children the shadow rule: if your shadow is shorter than you, the sun’s rays are at their strongest.
- Sunscreen doesn’t protect from all UV rays, so don’t use sunscreen as a way to stay out in the sun longer.
- Avoid other sources of UV light such as tanning beds and sun lamps.
- Follow the Slip! Slop! Slap!® and Wrap! rules:
  1. Slip on a shirt- Cover up with protective, comfortable, non see-through clothing to guard as much skin as possible when you’re out in the sun.
  2. Slop on sunscreen: Use sunscreen and lip balm with broad spectrum protection and a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or higher. Apply a generous amount of sunscreen to all areas of unprotected skin. Reapply every 2 hours and after swimming, toweling dry, or sweating.
  3. Slap on a hat: Cover your head with a hat, shading your face, ears, and neck.
  4. Wrap on sunglasses: Wear sunglasses with 100% UVA and UVB absorption to protect your eyes and the surrounding skin.
