SEPTEMBER GUIDANCE

September Guidance will take place the week of September 28, 2015. Guidance will focus on Habit 1 of the Leader in Me: Be Proactive.

You're in Charge.

I am a responsible person. I take initiative. I choose my actions, attitudes and moods. I do not blame others for my wrong actions. I do the right thing without being asked, even when no one is looking.

Kindergarten and first grade classes will receive an introduction lesson on being proactive. They will learn about the seven habits in general and what it means to be proactive. Second through fifth graders will receive a brush up on being a proactive and then a more in depth lesson on the habit.

If you are interested in learning more about the Seven Habits and how you can incorporate them into your classroom, you can find information on http://www.pinterest.com and at http://www.theleaderinme.org/

ABRI DATA

Multi-Year Data

The start to the 2015-2016 school year has been one for the books! We only had 1 referral for the month of August which is a new ALL TIME LOW! Students did not earn any referrals on the bus for this month, which is another first!

During our ABRI meetings we are focusing on improving bus and cafeteria behavior. Although we do not have any magical fixes yet, we are planning on bring a bus to Maryville after each long break (Fall, Winter and Spring) so teachers may use it to re-teach bus expectations. If you have any suggestions or recommendations, please see a member of the ABRI team or attend a meeting.

Teaching Expectations

Disney Junior has a YouTube Channel full of videos, including a section on classroom manners. There is an alligator named Al who needs help learning his manners, like how to play on the playground, or raising his hand and waiting his turn. These videos are super cute and about two minutes in length so they are great for conversation starters or a reflection on expectations.

Here is the YouTube Channel:

Creating a Caring Classroom

Lots of books designed for younger children (think 3-5) make great read alouds for older classrooms. They are quick reads and often teach an important skill or habit. There are many websites with recommendations on books to create a caring classroom. This is only one website with a list of 101 recommended books for quick read alouds that reinforce sharing, kindness, accepting responsibility and manners. I have some in my office and the library has others. Let me know if you need helping finding some of the books for your classroom.
