Principal Corner
- Check out our dress-up days next week! See about our Healthy Bodies and Healthy Minds below.
- The Color Run is almost here. Check out the Color Run information below and the Color Run times. We hope our families can join us for the Color Run. It will be held at the B.Y.E. track.
- Students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade took a spelling test in class. Students will be for the building Spelling Bee. This event will be held on November 18th. Students that are participating will be given a word list to study.
- The district is piloting a new "test to stay" program. If a child is considered a close contact, parents can complete a form that allows the child to stay in school if they follow a few rules. The student must wear a mask for 7 days and will be given a Covid test each day by the school nurse. The test is a shallow nasal swab like a home test. Additionally, the student will not be allowed to do extracurricular activities. This is optional for each child instead of a child being quarantined.

You may fax or email shot records and physicals to the Nurse at
aschultz@sdale.org, fax them (479) 306-2002 or send a copy to school with your child.
If you need assistance with getting a physical or vaccine for your child, please contact Nurse Amy at 750-8770. I would be happy to help.

Notes from the Counselor
Counseling Lesson Themes-Feelings and Empathy
In the next few weeks, all grades will be talking about feelings and empathy. The purpose of these lessons are to help students identify specific feeling words, recognize feelings in self and others, and understand that all feelings are okay.
Children who are able to identify how they feel are more likely to understand the feelings of their friends, classmates, and the grown-ups in their lives. This builds empathy, a crucial life skill.
Becoming comfortable with their feelings is important as children face new challenges and learn to manage their changing emotions.
Here are some tips to build emotional awareness in your children:
Ask your child how he/she is feeling.
Share how you are feeling.
Play feelings charades. Show your feelings on your face and body.
Read stories with your child and talk about how the characters are feeling.

Veteran's Day Virtual Assembly
Veteran's Day is coming soon. Our fourth graders are creating a virtual assembly for Veteran's Day this year. We are planning to add a small presentation to it. If there is a veteran in your child's life, please send a picture to younginfo@sdale.org. Include the veteran's name, student's name and student's grade. All photos need to be sent in by Monday, November 8th. If you remember having a slide in last year's presentation and want to use the same one, email me the name and I will look for it. The virtual Veteran's Day assembly will be posted on our social media and in a newsletter.
