My Holiday traditions

Please fill out your family's holiday tradition form and put it back in your child's folder as soon as possible. So your child will be able to show and share more about themselves.

NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER FOOD DRIVE:

In these uncertain times, and perhaps even more so during the holidays, our neighbors should not have to worry if they'll have food on the table.

The Creek will be collecting non-perishable food donations to help supply The Village Pantry for the holiday season from November 15 through December 17.

Students and families may drop off donations at our school entrance. Mr. Fisher will deliver them to the Village Pantry every Friday after school. A wishlist of their needs can be found on the Amazon Smiles page located here.

The Village Pantry is open to serve the needs of people in Hurst, Euless, and Bedford. They are open Tuesday – Friday from 12:30 pm – 3:30 pm.

They are located at 740 East Pipeline Road in Hurst - in the shopping center with Kroger.

If you have need, please visit them. If you can donate, please help them. There are many ways to help in addition to canned goods.

Thank you for helping those in need.

Big picture

Dear Families,

As we continue our theme of “Compare and Contrast”, this week children will explore the differences between real and make-believe. They will learn about the inspiration of imagination and dream. They will also analyze fairy tales and learn the characteristics that many fairy tales have in common.

This week’s Family Connections activities can be found at https://portal2.frogstreet.com/connections/?bookname=ENG_FC_T4_W3.

This week’s storybook, “A Fantastic Pet” can be found at https://portal2.frogstreet.com/ebook/?bookname=FS20107_AFantasticPet_eBook.

Looking forward to enjoying these fairy tales together!

Sincerely,

The Pre-K Team

Helpful Information for Beginning of the Year

  • ATTENDANCE: In the event that your child is or will be absent from school, we would appreciate it if you would let us know! You can do so by:

-Calling the school to let the front office know. Our number is 817-305-4860.

-Emailing your child’s teacher to let them know.

-Emailing the attendance clerk, Mrs. Stewart, (georgia.stewart@gcisd.net ).

To excuse the absence, written notification is required and should be turned into Mrs. Stewart in the office.

  • TARDIES: Please have your student at your teacher’s door by 7:40 so that the class can start the day with as few interruptions as possible. The tardy bell rings at 7:40, after which time you will need to check-in at the office and your child will be counted tardy.

  • SNACK & LUNCH: Make sure your child's healthy (dry and nut free) snack is separate from their lunch box. Also, talk with your child each morning about whether or not they will be buying their lunch. Our goal is for your child to independently move their name card ("lunch from home" or "lunch from school") or be able to communicate their plan to us each day. Additionally, they should be able to decipher their snack from lunch. Lunch will be from 11:15-11:45.

  • FOLDERS: Please check your child’s folder everyday and the Bear Creek Smore for the latest information. Please sign/inicial the calendar inside the folder to show us that you reviewed the folder and place it back in your child’s backpack daily.

  • CHANGE OF CLOTHES: Please ensure that you keep a clean change of clothes (season appropriate) in your student’s backpack at all times. In the event your child has an accident, it would be helpful if your child knows how to change their clothes as independently as possible.

  • GYM: All students must wear tennis shoes every day so they can participate in the gym. If your child is wearing a skirt, please make sure she is wearing shorts underneath.

  • LOST ITEMS: Please make sure all items are labeled with your child's name. In the event that something is lost or misplaced, you may contact the front office and they will direct you to our lost and found.

  • ITEMS FROM HOME: Please do not allow your child to bring any toys or other materials from home, as they may get damaged or misplaced.

  • BIRTHDAYS: Due to the rise in the number of students that have reported food-related allergies, we ask parents that are interested in celebrating their child’s birthday at school to send a non-edible treat (stickers, pencils, etc.). Please make sure you include ALL the students in the class. The students love stickers, pencils, etc. and our Bear Creek teachers do a wonderful job at making sure the students feel special on their birthdays.

  • DISMISSAL:

-What do I do with my child's "dismissal" sign?

Make sure to utilize your dismissal sign EACH day at dismissal. Anyone picking up students MUST have a sign. Please keep your car sign visible (visor/dash/mirror) until your child is in your car. If you lose it or need more, please let your child’s teacher know and we can make another.

-What if I walk to pick up my child?

All students and parents are required to use the crosswalk while on school grounds. Please stand at or near the bike rack with your dismissal sign until your child is called and comes to you.

-What happens if I am late to pick up my child?

Any student not picked up by 3:10 PM will need to be signed out in the front office.

-What if my child needs help buckling their seat belt/ car seat?

If you need to help your child after they are in your vehicle, please pull around to the other side of the bus circle where there is room to stop and assist them without impeding traffic.

-What if someone different is picking them up?

It is always best to contact your child's teacher to let them know if your child's pick up routine will be different. Please send your dismissal sign with the person that is picking up your child.

-How many car lines are there at dismissal?

There is only ONE car line for both Pre-K and Kindergarten. Any cars or buses that bypass the carline are doing so to pick up their student from special services. Please do not cut in front of any cars that have been waiting in line.

-Which direction do I go when I leave?

Right turn only on exit from 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM.

BACKPACK

CHANGE OF CLOTHES: PLEASE ensure that you keep a baggie with multiple change of clean clothes (season appropriate, including underwear and socks) in your student’s backpack at ALL TIMES. In order for your child to be as comfortable as possible after the accident, it is beneficial to your child to have clothes in the room so we do not have to walk to the nurse and hope she has clothes that will fit your child. If she doesn't have clothes, we have to call you to come and bring us some and your child has to wait longer in wet clothes.

Other items to include in the backpack everyday:

  • labeled snack
  • labeled spill proof water bottle that your child can open and close
  • Check and clean out the provided folder every night
  • mask (optional)

A Word from our Coaches

Please make sure your child is wearing tennis shoes to school (they can change into their tennis shoes but they will need to do it as soon as soon as they come in). Wear boots or sandals in the gym is not safe and they will not be able to participate when they are in the gym.

They also wanted us to remind everyone that if your child is wearing a skirt or dress they need to have shorts on underneath. While in the gym or at recess the could be climbing or doing activities that could involve being on the ground, jumping around, doing stretches, etc... so it is really important that they are covered.

WHAT TO DO IF YOUR CHILD WILL BE ABSENT

In the event that your child is or will be absent from school, we would appreciate it if you would let us know! You can do so by:

  • Calling the school to let the front office know. Our number is 817-305-4860.

  • Emailing your child’s teacher to let them know.

  • Emailing the attendance clerk, Mrs. Stewart, (georgia.stewart@gcisd.net ). To excuse the absence, written notification is required and should be turned into Mrs. Stewart in the office.

  • Write a note and put it in your child's folder so it can be documented and given to Mrs. Stewart.

TARDIES: Please have your student at your teacher’s door by 7:30 so that the class can get started with their day with as few interruptions as possible. The tardy bell rings at 7:40, after which time you will need to check-in at the office and your child will be counted tardy.

NEU at Bear Creek

As a part of the No Excuses Network, the teachers and staff at Bear Creek Elementary, believe in college and career readiness for all. We believe every student deserves the opportunity to be educated in a way that prepares them for college if they choose to attend.

As a part of the Pre-Kindergarten program at Bear Creek, we strive to build relationships with each child that lead to a lifelong love of learning. Each classroom has adopted a college to cheer for and learn about. Your child is encouraged to wear a college shirt each Friday (it does not have to be the college adopted by their class).
