Spotlight on Early Childhood - From Mrs. Mary Jo
The school year is now in full swing! School is a wonderful place for you to make friends as well as your children. So I hope you were able to enjoy our first annual Back-to School BBQ and or Back-to-School Night. If not don't worry there will be plenty of other opportunities for you to join us throughout the school year!
So, now that the school year is fully underway you probably wonder, what do we do all day? This is a child centered school, where children “learn by doing.” Here it is the teacher’s responsibility to prepare an environment that will allow children to learn through active exploration and interaction with adults, other children and materials. Young children learn by using all of their senses through trial and error. They are active learners. Current research has confirmed just how important active learning is to the development of the young child. Creative play is the prerequisite for the development of cognitive and social skills that are needed before complex and abstract concepts such as reading and math can be mastered. Our goal is to help your child establish a life-long love of learning.
Once we understand how the young child learns, or acquires knowledge then we know how and why a preschool must look and function differently than an elementary school.
Our day is broken up into large segments or blocks of time that remain fluid in order to reflect the interests and ability levels of the children. The following is a brief explanation of a daily routine. Each day the same components are incorporated, which can be found by clicking here!
