DOTS AND DASHES FROM THE LIBRARY
Here are some things that you may find interesting!
JUST SOME THINGS THAT ARE GOOD TO KNOW.
1. We are in the process of a massive weeding project. I would love to give away some of our books that may be more appropriate for the classroom as well as some donated books from Shreve Memorial. Show Ms. Hicks your Shreve Memorial Library card and you get an unlimited shopping spree.
2. Don't have a card? If you live or work in Caddo Parish (which we all do), you are eligible for a card. Get one here: http://www.shreve-lib.org/Index.aspx?NID=130
3. The library next door is a great asset. They have storytimes and their collection is much larger than ours. If you can't locate a book in the J.S. Clark Library, always check there. Ms. Hicks is also always glad to help you find a book at another library.
4. Check out our Destiny page to see a list of our great new books! Many of these books have teaching guides and are great, especially many of our new nonfiction titles. Here is a list:

5. Discovery Education is a wonderful tool for teaching. There are resources GALORE!!! Go to www.discoveryeducation.com and sign up using our school code: 4DDC-897F

HELP! MY STUDENTS NEED AR POINTS!
Quick and Easy Ways to Encourage Reading In the Classroom
1. Use Tumblebooks as a bell-ringer. There are so many short Tumblebooks that are AR books.
2. Discovery Education has many books that are on video that are also AR.
3. Teachers have unlimited checkouts in the library. You can come and check out books to keep in your class for a week at a time. This will help those students who do not have checkout privileges.
4. Encourage students to take advantage of the library's payment plan. If they bring $1.00, they can begin paying off their lost or damaged books and may check out 1 book.
5. I have books to give away if you are trying to build your classroom library.
6. Don't forget that non-fiction books are also AR books. We have a great selection of non-fiction and biographies that are great reads for students.
7. Let students see YOU reading. I have professional development titles in the library and I also have some adult fiction to loan personally.
If the library can be of any assistance, please let us know.
