Standardized Testing Gone Mad
The excessive amount of time students spend their days sitting silently in their desks crossing out answer choices, listening to directions, and bubbling in answer sheets has become a serious issue. "By the time students graduate from a public school in Texas, they will have spent 34 school days taking a standardized test," tells middle school English Language Arts teacher, Daniel Dawer. Schools have become test-prep factories, poisoning the students' attitudes towards education and schooling.
I agree with the author when he mentions the two forms of alternative assessment that have already seen success. They are portfolio-based assessments (a collection of the students work) and performance exams (demonstrating their knowledge and skills through application).

Parent Power
For parents who are involved in supporting their child's academic life, this means they have access to quality educational options and are provided with good information to make smart decisions about their children’s education.
It is good for parents to encourage their children to do well in school, and help them excel as best as they can.

Unenclosed School Allows Students to Develop Fresh New Ways of Learning
Does any of this actually help kids get a better education? It’s impossible to know for sure. But as Bosch tells it, “The differentiated spaces allow the children to learn on their own terms, creating different types of learning scenarios. In that way, the design lets the school unfold its potential,” says Suzanne Labarre.
