Marthasville Family Newsletter
December 2020
Marthasville Families,
Distance Learning/Students on Quarantine: If your child has been quarantined due to Covid exposure (or you are choosing Distance Learning for your child) teachers are Zooming with them multiple times a day so they can continue to receive their direct instruction. Assignments are posted daily in Google Classroom. It is district expectation for students to either:
A. Join the Zooms for instruction and do all of their assigned work in Google Classroom.
OR
B. Watch the posted instruction Zoom videos and do all of their assigned work in Google Classroom.
Teachers are tracking participation and work completion. If they are not seeing your child join the Zooms or submit work, they will be contacting you. Either the counselor or myself will follow up if the teacher can't reach you. Students who are participating and turning in work will NOT have their attendance affected. If your student is not doing any work and we aren't hearing from you, daily attendance will be changed to an Unexcused Absence. Families who are having internet issues need to let me know so I can secure a free Hot Spot. We understand that being on quarantine is difficult and adds a layer of stress. Our staff is trying to maintain a level of "normalcy" and keeping students on a routine with daily instruction and independent practice is crucial in this process. If you have concerns or questions, feel free to reach out! I know there are several situations that interfere with a student's ability to get their work done at home. Please just let us know so we can work with your child to support them! I have witnessed teachers juggling their in-person students while Zooming with those at home and they are ROCKING it. I am proud of the hard work they are putting in to ensure ALL children continue to learn no matter where they are. Thank you for the continued home support and cooperation. TEAMWORK is the key word- we are here for your family and appreciate the work you are putting in at home too!!
Weather: Now that the weather is getting colder, it is a good idea to send your child in weather appropriate attire. Sneakers and closed toed shoes should be worn, plus jackets and coats (labeled please). If your child needs a coat, please email me so I can get one for them.
Title 1 Virtual Night: Don't forget to RSVP for our first Title 1 Virtual Night on December 17th. We will send home a bag of reading, math, and stem activities, along with a free book, Sneezy Snowman, the day of the event. There will also be a link sent out to view some of our teachers read their favorite children's books! At 7:00 p.m. Mrs. Meyer will read a story via Zoom. The link for this will also be emailed and posted on social media. If you need an extra copy of the RSVP note, let me know. I am sending home a Thank You note attached to a packet of Hot Chocolate for students who return their RSVP note.

Friendly Reminders
Face Covers: All students are now mandated to wear their face covers.
School Hours: Doors open at 7:20. If your child is a walker/biker or a car rider, please make sure they don't arrive any earlier than 7:15. There isn't always staff out there to supervise students. Doors close at 7:45 and your child will be marked TARDY if they come in after that. Students needing breakfast should arrive by 7:30 so they have enough time to eat before the bell rings for school to start.
Reporting Absences: If your child will not be attending school for the day, please call the office at 636-231-2650 or email cheryl.brueggemann@sdowmo.org by 8:00 to let Mrs. Brueggemann know. If we don't hear from you, she will be calling to verify your child's absence. Any unverified absence is marked unexcused in Lumen. If you suspect your child has been exposed (or is showing symptoms) to Covid, please let Nurse Annie know so we can begin the process of contact tracing if it is warranted to quarantine a class. We appreciate your support and cooperation in this matter. We are working diligently to follow the district's and health department's guidelines. In the event it has been warranted to quarantine a class, I will be in touch via call and email blast to only the class (and staff) that has to quarantine. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Mrs. Daffron or Nurse Annie.
Change of Transportation: Mrs. Brueggemann needs all changes of transportation prior to 2:00 so notes can be delivered to students in a timely manner. Unless it is an emergency and you have contacted us, we will send your child to their normal afternoon location during dismissal. If your child tells us they are going somewhere different, we will not allow them (for many safety reasons) unless we have heard from you.
Lumen/Parent Portal: Please check your child's grades frequently in Parent Portal. If you have questions regarding grades on assignments, tests, or projects, it is requested that you first contact your child's teacher to get clarification. You can reach your child's teacher via email or Remind 101. You may call and leave a voicemail, however, they will only be able to call you back before school, during their plan time, or after school. We are also asking for student binders and backpacks to be checked daily for notes, graded work, etc. from teachers. We are finding many students have backpacks and binders are never being checked and important communication and documents are being missed.
Communication: If you haven't joined your child's class Remind 101, codes are below. Teachers are sending out information frequently using this app. It is a quick and easy way to connect with the teacher.
