Back to School Night 101Course Num: 76 (2)



The first half hour of this course will allow the participants to discuss orally and electronically (using a Google doc) the elements necessary for a successful Back to School Night from the teacher's perspective and the parents' point of view. After we collaborate to make our check list, the participants will have half an hour to prepare a Google slide presentation with links to their web sites, a questionnaire (Google forms) to gather vital data from parents, and a brief letter for parents to take home.

Lesson StudyCourse Num: 68 (2)



Interested in participating in lesson study? Not quite sure what it is? Lesson study is a form of professional development in which teachers work collaboratively to form goals for student learning, plan, conduct, and observe a research lesson designed to bring these goals to life, observe student learning, and finally engage in reflection and revision of the lesson. Lesson study gives teachers the opportunity to see teaching and learning as it takes place in the classroom, setting it apart from other types of professional development. We are seeking 5-6 teachers of Grades K-5 and 5-6 teachers of Grades 6-12 Mathematics (including Special Education teachers) who are committed to joining a lesson study group and experiencing lesson study firsthand in a mathematics classroom. By joining this group, you are indicating your willingness/desire to be a part of the process and will earn 6 hours of professional development credit. Getting Around ThinkCentralCourse Num: 69 (2)



We have some really great resources available to us on ThinkCentral. Virtual manipulatives can add to a number of lessons in addition to the MIF SmartBoard lessons. With MIF responding to teacher concerns, we now have access to more materials that support the Appendix lessons from the back of our textbooks. Online assessments are another great way to gauge how your students are doing and can be used in the classroom or as a review given at home. Learn how to access these new resources so that you can use them in your classroom.

Google Classroom and BlendspaceCourse Num: 87 (2)



Google Classroom helps teachers create, assign, and collect student classwork and homework paperless. With Google Classroom, teachers can seamlessly integrate Google Docs, Google Drive, and Gmail to create assignments, provide feedback for in progress and completed work, and communicate with their students directly and with whole class announcements--all without using a single piece of paper. Students can work on assignments in Google Docs and turn it in with a few clicks.Blendspace will help you create interactive lessons, subplans, and help you organize your day to day lesson plans. Students can also utilize Blendspace to create exciting presentations as well as create outlines for organizing student work. In this two hour course you will set up accounts in both Google Classroom and Blendspace. You will leave with knowledge of both and ideas on how to incorporate these new tools into your classroom for the coming school year.
