Black History Month at BMHS
This year at BMHS, one way in which we will observe and celebrate Black History Month is by having Academic Labs and other 3rd Block classes research an important and influential African American figure throughout history. Each class will sign up for an individual and each week, the entire class will research more and more about that person. The goal will be to showcase this research in poster form and hang the posters around the school. Black excellence has existed for hundreds of years in this country and the goal of these research projects is to highlight that regardless of the oppression and adversity faced by African Americans, like air, still, they rise.
Student vs. Staff Basketball Game
We will be holding the annual Staff vs. Student Basketball Game on February 18th from 2:30-3:30. We will run the early release schedule that day and allow all ineligible students to leave at 2:30, while all eligible students will head down to the Barkin. Any ineligible students will be offered the opportunity to stay for a study hall. More details on the specifics will be provided the week of the game.
We will social distance in the gym and everyone, including those participating will be required to wear masks.

Youth Risk Behavior Survey - February 25, 2022
The Youth Risk Behavior Survey is given to all 9th and 11th grade high school students. BMHS will administer this survey on Friday, February 25, 2022.. The Youth Risk Behavior Survey is an opportunity for students to share their feelings and views regarding safety concerns, school culture and climate, tobacco/alcohol/other drug use, stress, and mental health concerns such as depression and anxiety. The district uses the data to develop and implement resources, procedures, and outreach to create a safe and welcoming environment for each and every student.
The Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). This survey will ask about safety concerns, school culture and climate, tobacco/alcohol/other drug use, stress, and mental health concerns such as depression and anxiety. Students will be asked to fill out a computer-based questionnaire that takes about 45 minutes to complete. They will take the survey during regular class time. The survey has been designed to protect your child’s privacy. Students will not put their names on the survey. Completing this anonymous survey will present little or no risk to your child. The only potential risk is that some students might find certain questions to be sensitive. No class or student will ever be mentioned by name in a report of the results. The results of this survey will help children in the future by influencing health and safety programs.
The survey is voluntary and students may “Opt Out” at anytime during the survey. No action will be taken against you, or your child, if your child does not participate. Students can skip any question they do not wish to answer. In addition, students may stop participating in the survey at any point without penalty.
If you have questions about the survey, call Samantha Wellnitz at 608.361.3143.
