2nd Grade Scoop

Mayfield Junior School - May 9, 2016

We want to thank you!

We teachers are overwhelmed by the love and support we received throughout teacher appreciation week. So we thank all of you for your thoughtfulness and kindness.

2nd Grade Class Mass

Second Grade parents are invited to attend the Second Grade Mass on Friday, May 13th, at 1:00pm in the Mayfield Junior School chapel. This Mass will be particularly special after our second graders received or were an important part of the Sacrament of First Eucharist. We hope to see you all there!

MJS Second Graders Use 'Their Hands' to Serve

As a part of our Service Learning project, the second graders used their hands to grow greens in our Mayfield garden. We have mixed those greens with some greens courtesy of Trader Joes. This week, the second graders use their hands to bag this wonderful mixture of salad greens to hand out to Mayfield families, faculty and staff. Second grade extends their hands to offer these salad greens to help keep members of our community healthy, and to remind everyone how delicious a salad of healthy greens can be. You should have received an email last week asking you if you would like a bag of greens. If you respond 'Yes', we will send your bag of greens home on Wednesday.

Trash to Treasure - How's it coming?

Trash to Treasure is often the favorite of all second grade projects! Items that were previously "trash" will be transformed into something new that is a useful, inventive, or beautiful "treasure." Please keep in mind that the project must fit on the top of your student's desk. The project is due on Thursday, May 19th. Your second grader will bring the project to school on that day (not before), and will present it to the class. We also will host a Trash to Treasure gallery tour for first grade! Please note that your child also must fill out the form describing the project. More forms are available in the classrooms. The students will be reminded to plan out the project, and to begin early. Please let us know if you have any questions about the project or the process., and please read the directions on the sheet that came home last week.

In May we crown mary

May is a very special month for honoring Mary, our Blessed Mother. Traditionally, we "Crown Mary" with flowers to honor her. You too can lay a flower or two, or a crown of flowers at your own Mary statue, or bring them to the Mary statue in one of the classrooms, or on campus.
