How to Make Up Coaching
Your Options Explained
Option 1 - Attend A Live Session
This option allows you to earn up to 100% credit for a missed session.
- Check the schedule below and find a coaching session that works best for you based on your schedule.
- Coaching sessions are held Monday - Thursday.
- You may make up a missed session with any time with any coach as long as it's the same level. Don't attend a Japanese 1 coaching session if you're taking Japanese 2.
- Try to choose times that are less crowded if possible. If a coaching session gets too crowded you may be asked to join another session.
You may attend a live coaching session through:
Computer with Internet Access
Smartphone
Telephone

Option 2 - Listen to An Archived Recording and Submit A Summary
This option allows you to earn up to 80% credit for a missed session.
- Go to the course link marked "Blackboard Collaborate"
- Once the page has loaded, click the link that says Recordings:
- Find the your coach's recording of the date and time that you missed.
- If your coach was not able to record anything, you may listen to the recording of another coach's session.
- Listen to the whole archive.
- Write a paragraph describing the coaching session.
- Write 3 examples of sentences that were practiced in the session.
- Then, E-MAIL your teacher the date and time of the recording, your paragraph, and 3 sentences.
- An easy way to include this information is to copy and paste the date and time of the recording into your e-mail.
A sample e-mail might look something like this:
Konnichiwa sensei,
I have listened to the following archive for make-up credit:
Coach Sparks san Classroom - 03/16/2016 8:59
During the coaching session, coach Sparks demonstrated how to properly pronounce the vocabulary words. Then, they practiced making sentences using the て-form. After that, they practiced reading the dialogues from the videos here in the course.
1. すし を たべて、みず を のみました。
2. アーカイブ を きいて、しゅくだい を しました。
3. ほん を よんで、 おんがく を ききました。
Arigatou gozaimasu,
Student B. Awesome
If you choose this method:
You must listen to the entire archive! Your teacher can see whether or not you listened to the archive recording and how much of it you listened to for the make up. This will be checked!
You must include the summary and the 3 sentences. A summary alone will not earn you the maximum score.
It is easier and more fun to attend a live session, so try to only use this method if it is not possible to attend a live session in order to make up missed coaching.
