A Brief History

The Dagwood is a multi-layered sandwich made up of a wide variety of meats, cheeses, and condiments. It was inspired by the 1930's comic Blondie. The sandwich was named after the character Dagwood Bumstead, who would often make tall sandwiches. The Dagwood was brought to life in 1951 when businessmen Bob Weiler and Art Lang opened up the first Dagwood themed sandwich shop.

There is no distinct recipe to follow when making the Dagwood. You can use any meat, cheese, condiments, and breads you want. The only thing you have to make sure of is to make it have more than two pieces of bread, because that's what makes it multi-Decker sandwich. A Dagwood is normally defined by its size, specifically its height.
