Did you know that we only have 9 more weeks of school???
Upcoming:
Friday, March 25
Field Trip to Elachee Nature Center. Please be sure to pay online using your MyPaymentsPlus account by March 19th!!! You can also send in a check for $18.
Friday, April 1 - April 10
Spring Break is around the corner. April 1st is our first day - the Friday before the full week.
CHICKS!!!
Did your child tell you that we are raising chicks in our classroom? Ben Freeman's mom brought in eggs and an incubator last week. We are having fun, as we nurture them from egg to chick. We are on day 9; on day 20 or 21 we will see some feathers!
IMPORTANT!!! If your child has a device you will allow them to bring to school (iPad, mini iPad, or tablet - NO cellphones):
- complete a BYOD form - can be found on the school website. (disregard if you already sent one in)
- download the following apps onto their device:
- Thinking Blocks App (only on Apple products right now)
- Kindle Reader App (available for all tablets/iPads)
- Other tablets or laptops - you can go to the website and bookmark it: http://www.mathplayground.com/thinkingblocks.html
- a voice recording/ voice memo app (anything that is easy and free)
- Stopwatch - free in the Apple Store
- RSE app - directions are on the school website
Start sending devices everyday in the backpack - I may or may not use them, depending on the day and how the class is being. I would rather they have the device, than not. Also, please make sure your child can log on to the apps listed above. I cannot spend the time setting them up if I am in the middle of a small group lesson. That has taken up too much time in the past.
Please feel free to contact me - anytime. I do not check my email during the day (if I do, it is a rare occasion.) So, please call the office if you need me right away (770-932-7474).

Field trip - Elachee Nature Center
We will be hiking and learning about Georgia habitats!
March 4, 2016
Dear Parents,
To coordinate with our study of habitats, we are excited to announce that 3rd grade is planning a field trip to the Elachee Nature Science Center! During this visit, students will explore four major habitats of Georgia and learn about the unique animals and plants found in each area. Habitat stations will provide an active environment to learn about these Georgia plants and animals and their needs for survival. The students will enjoy searching out plant and animal habitats during a guided hike through the Chicopee Woods.
Objectives:
1. Students will be able to identify four main components that make up a habitat.
2. Students will be able to identify four different habitats in Georgia.
3. Students will be able to identify features of plants and animals that allow them to live and thrive in different regions of Georgia.
4. Students will be able to explain how pollution and other changes in habitat can affect plants and animals.
All 3rd grade classes will be visiting the Elachee Nature Science Center on Friday, March 25, 2016. The fieldtrip buses will depart from Rock Springs at 9:30 a.m. and return at 1:30 p.m. We will take sack lunches with us on our trip and will eat them while at the Nature Center.
The cost of the fieldtrip will be $18.00 for each student. No student will be denied an opportunity to participate because of failure to contribute; however if enough funds are not secured, the field trip will be cancelled. Fieldtrip payments can be made online. Please pay for the fieldtrip by accessing your child’s account on mypaymentsplus.com and search for activity ID: 77337. If your child does not have a MPP account please set the account up at your earliest convenience. The deadline for paying for the fieldtrip is March 19, 2016.
