BECS Parent Newsletter
September 30, 2022
Dear Hawk Families:
As we close out September, we have much to be proud of. Our theme for this school year: Building a Legacy through Connectedness is coming to life. Our students have started the year strong by building relationships with their classmates and teachers, learning routines and habits for success, engaging with the 7 Habits and participating in clubs and sports. A huge shout out to girls volleyball and the A team who is undefeated along with our WEB leaders who continue to foster connections with our 6th graders and new students. We are looking forward to the โIt Starts with Helloโ Spirit Week next week. Check out the themes below!
Additionally, we have built connections with our parents and community through our volunteer orientation program with 158 volunteers, PTO, Pastries with the Principals and school events such as Back to School Night. We have been blessed with community donations of recess equipment and snacks for our staff. Thank you, BECS community, for being a partner and supporting the school!
Finally, October 4th is our official October Count Day that determines our per pupil funding allocation from the State. 27J is almost exclusively funded through State revenue and Bromleyโs operational budget for the 22-23 school year is determined by the number of students in attendance throughout the October Count window. Thank you for ensuring your child is in attendance!

Middle School Specific Updates:
Tardies: We are having a lot of students late to class in the morning. Please remember that doors open at 8:10 and class starts at 8:30. We will be working with students to manage their time wisely and be on time to classes. You can help by making sure students are dropped off by 8:20 so they have time to get inside and get things settled in their locker.
Appropriate Talk: We have been dealing with several instances of students saying inappropriate things that make other students feel unwelcome or unsafe such as racial slurs or threats that students intend as jokes. At Bromley, we believe in creating a safe and belonging culture. These comments break down that culture and have had some severe consequences for those involved. We have gone to classrooms and re-iterated what is appropriate and what is not, along with the possible consequences, in an effort to get ahead of further issues. Feel free to review these things with your student as well.
- 8th Grade Social Studies: As you likely know by now, Ms. Verniest has been hired and is teaching our 8th-grade social studies classes. She has also been able to transfer scores from previously completed work into Infinite Campus. That process is now complete and your student's grades should be accurate and complete with both previous and current work.
PTO: Working hard for student's, staff, and community!
Donations for Conferences occurring in October: LINK We are seeking donations for our hard-working teachers to be able to grab a quick snack between conferences and would greatly appreciate donations. Please review the available slots below and click on the button to sign up. Please drop off all donations to the front office by October 7th.
Harvest Festival Sponsors Needed: We are seeking Sponsors for our Fall Festival. Please review the available slots below and click on the button to sign up. Each $100 Sponsored will give you a free wristband for our Fall Festival, I.E. you sponsor $400, you will receive 4 free wristbands. Please bring your own Signage to display at the Festival. We greatly appreciate each and every one of our Sponsors who help us make events happen. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050448ACAE23A6F85-sponsor
