School Hours & Attendance Information
School Hours & Information
Arrival
Students may arrive at school as early as 7:15am. Parents can drop off students in the car line by the pavilion. After 7:40am, parents must park and walk their child into the office. No staff is on duty in the arrival area before 7:15 am or after 7:40am. Instruction begins at 7:40am.
Breakfast
For Kindergarten through 5th Grades, a free hot breakfast is served daily from 7:15 am - 7:40 am in the cafeteria. For PreK, students eat as a class from 7:40 am - 8:00 am.
Tardy Bell
Students who are not in class at 7:45 am are recorded as tardy. When a student arrives late, the adult dropping them off needs to park their vehicle and come into the office to sign the student in for the day. Students arriving late miss important learning that may affect their ability to make progress in school.
Attendance Bell
Attendance is taken at 9am daily. Students not on campus at 9am are marked absent for the day.
Instructional Day
The instructional school day is from 7:40 am - 3:20 pm. On Early Release days, the instructional day is from 7:40 am - 12:20 pm.

Before starting school, parents will complete a form communicating how your child will go home each day. Students can go home as:
Car rider
Bus rider (Click here for BCISD Transportation Information)

Walking is available for students who live within a walking distance of the school (less than 1 mile and do not cross Highway 29). Students may not meet cars in the walker locations.

Back Walker (escorted to the Methodist Church and cross FM 243/1174 and then walk unescorted)

Late Arrivals and Early Check Outs
Throughout the school year, it can be necessary to check your child out early or check them in late. We ask that late arrivals and early check outs be limited to emergencies and medical appointments. Please provide a medical excuse note from the doctor, dentist, or therapist when your child returns to school so that their time away can be excused. Early check outs and late arrivals are tracked and impacts student learning.
Early Pick Up by 2:30pm
Parents wishing to pick their child up early must do so by 2:30pm. The foyer doors lock at 2:30pm to allow our office staff to prepare for a safe and orderly dismissal.
Please bring your photo ID and arrive in time to allow 10 minutes for your child to transition from their classroom to the office. In order to maximize instruction and ensure your child's safety, students are NOT called to the office until the adult picking up has arrived at the school and photo ID has been verified.
Non-guardians must be listed as emergency contacts with permission to pick up in order for a student to be released to them. Photo ID must be provided.
As a reminder, early check outs are recorded and impact student learning.

💚Taking Care of Our Students💚
Medicine at School
Bertram Elementary is staffed with a school nurse who can assist with providing medication that must be taken during the school day.
Medication can be given on a short-term basis (less than 4 weeks) by completing the Medication Administration form with a parent signature. For long term medication, a physician’s signature is required in addition to the parent signature. All medication must be brought to school in the original container or prescription bottle (properly labeled by a registered pharmacist as prescribed by law.
Transportation
Please see the BCISD Transportation site for information on requesting bus transportation, bus routes, and contact information for the Transportation Department.
Optional Student Accident Insurance
While we work hard to safeguard your child at school, student injuries and accidents sometimes happen. Under State Law, school districts can’t be liable for accidents, which occur in schools. It is important to understand the school district is not responsible for medical payments or bills for your child. If your child is injured during any school, athletic or UIL sponsored activity, all medical charges are your responsibility.
Burnet CISD has purchased student accident insurance for any student that participates in a UIL event and accident insurance for any student while at school or involved in a school sponsored event.
Please note this is a limited benefit policy and any charges above the policy limits are the responsibly of the parent or guardian.
In addition, since the school district has purchased this supplemental accident policy, you have the opportunity if you so choose to purchase additional student accident insurance that would be secondary to all other policies.
The attached includes some helpful information and a QR code that will take you directly to the website for Student Assurance Services.
Support for Families in Need
Families in need of assistance with meeting basic needs are encouraged to contact our school counselor by emailing awyatt@burnetcisd.net. We have many resources available to help your family.
Visiting Bertram Elementary
Campus Security
Your child's safety and the security of our school are our top priorities. We require that all campus visitors check in at the front office with a valid photo ID (driver's license, state ID, military ID, or consulate ID). Visitors will be provided with a sticker that must be worn and visible throughout your visit. At the end of your visit, please return the sticker to the front office.
Lunch with Your Child
Students are permitted to each lunch with adults listed as guardians or emergency contacts in Skyward Family Access. When eating with students, visitors and the appropriate students eat at our guest tables in the cafeteria. Adults are not permitted at classroom student tables. Outside food may only be brought for your child or those for whom you are listed as an emergency contact. Due to continued supply chain shortages, all cafeteria visitors must supply their own food.
Parents should communicate directly with their emergency contacts regarding any food allergies or expectations for eating lunch with their child.
