Important Notes
- If your child will go home a different way than usual, you will need to write a note. If I do not have a note saying they will go home a different way, I will send them home their normal way. Please do not Dojo message to tell me. I do not check my messages on Dojo until after school.
- Please, please make sure your child has a supply of pencils, paper, and a dry erase marker (black works best).
- Agendas should be signed each night, Monday through Thursday.
- Just a reminder, I do not check Dojo until the very end of the day. If you need to reach me during the day, please email or call the office. Thank you.
- If you have any extra tissues or sanitizing wipes at home, we will gladly take them off of your hands.
Language Arts Notes
Reading instruction is well on its way. We have completed our first week of reading stations and small groups. Students are still learning behavior expectations and routines during this time, but they are picking it up fast. This week will be a review week to catch up on some skills with which we are still struggling. Next week, we will focus on theme. This is typically a rather difficult concept as it involves inference skills with text support. Please continue to encourage your child to read nightly. We want to have every student on our team be a part of the Million Words Read Club.
In Writer's Workshop, we continued our focus on writing complete sentences with subjects and predicates. This week, we will begin to classify sentences as declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory. We will then put all of that together to write a multi-paragraph piece. In addition we will continue working on writing mechanics, in particular, capitalization.
Social Studies Notes
This past week, we discussed the three regions of North Carolina and their basic geography. We will continue that as we learn about important waterways and landforms of North Carolina. We will finish this unit by comparing and contrasting the different regions. Students have been engaged in a great deal of team work. Cooperative learning will be a large part of our Social Studies lessons this year.
