Parent Summit 101
Mentoring
You should have met with your student’s RISE mentor last week or this week to get an introduction to the Summit Learning Platform as well as a parent login. This week we continue our series giving helpful links focusing on Content Knowledge.
Introduction to Content Knowledge
This week Focus Areas are coming due for almost all classes. Most students have done a great job learning the system and doing the necessary work to master their Power Focus Areas before the deadlines. The content knowledge they gain in the focus areas will be necessary for them to work through the Projects. Above is a link to how content knowledge fits into Summit Learning and the research behind it.
The 16 Habits of Success - STRESS MANAGEMENT
This week RISE mentors and teachers are continuing to teach students about the 16 Habits of Success. This week we are continuing work with STRESS MANAGEMENT. With some students getting their first “red” Checkpoint or falling behind the line on a Power Focus area stress has increased. We want to continue helping students find positive ways to manage their stress by:
Helping students return to calm and balance by "matching and leading": meeting them where they are and leading them back toward calm and balance.
Helping students relate to their work more positively and in ways that generate less stress (e.g., by framing a challenge as an opportunity).
Taking advantage of potentially positive-stress situations (e.g., a group presentation) to highlight benefits of stress in some situations (e.g., your body is preparing you to be alert).
Explicitly teach stress management strategies (e.g., breathing exercises, centering practice).
Modeling the stress management Habits-in-action to your students in managing your own stress.
Engaging in mindfulness activities with your students.
Helping students plan ahead to prevent stressful experiences.
Building awareness of stress triggers for various students and be mindful of creating/adding to those triggers (which is not the same as always avoiding them).
As we work to help students learn to manage the stress of school and life in a healthy way, below is a link which can give you some helpful background information to become an ally in helping your child.

Senior Internships Begin
This week, our seniors will begin their first internship placement as part of the Frankfort High School Mentorship Program. Our program provides an experiential learning experience for our seniors by coordinating valuable internships within career fields they’re interested in pursuing following graduation in June 2020. This past year, we wrapped up the third year of our program, with our participating seniors accounting for over 9,000 hours of professional experience, as well as providing over 380 hours of service to our local community.
Our program would not be possible without our mentors, who serve as valuable resources to our students by being a window into the career the student has chosen to explore. As a mentor, our partners provide advice, recommendations, and teach our students what is required of them in the professional world after high school. Wish the kids luck and please be sure to thank our partners who will be hosting an intern this semester:

It's impossible to overstate the influence of Ancient Rome and Greece on our modern-day society; seeing monuments from those civilizations is a profound experience. From the Colosseum to the Parthenon to the archaeological sites as Pompeii, Epidaurus, and Mycenae, give your student the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of those who set the stage for the development of Western culture.
