From the Desk of Ms. Matthews
Dear CES Families,
The school year is almost coming to a close, and we are finishing strong CES! I have been delighted, to be able to fulfill my first full "back to normal" school year as principal of Cedarmere ES. I must confess I truly enjoy entering Cedarmere, each day. It is a privilege to be with the amazing students, who often bring smiles, joy and much laughter while learning each day. A "Good Morning Ms. Matthews," just from our youngest humans makes me smile. Soon our school hallways will be empty as the school year dwindles down and our students will be out for summer break. However, we still have a few major events before we close out the year and a few reminders, to our CES families, please review below.

5TH Grade Reverification!
Baltimore County Public Schools’ policy requires that all students transitioning from Grade 5 to 6 and Grade 8 to 9 be required to verify residency prior to the start of the school year. Provisions for student enrollment and attendance are outlined in Board of Education Policy and Superintendent’s rule 5150, STUDENTS: Enrollment and Attendance. Students enrolled as homeless, shared domicile, or students in State supervised care are exempt from this process since this is done annually for these students.
You will be receiving a letter from Cedarmere ES about this process and all items required to document your reverification.
Please be advised that failure to provide transition year residency verification will result in the withdrawal of your student from Baltimore County Public Schools.
If you have questions please call the office at 443-809-1100.
STUDENT LUNCH DELIVERY DILEMMA
Dear CES Families,
Please ensure before your child leaves for school they have their lunch packed and ready to go! If your child forgets their lunch at home, we can assure you they will be offered a lunch from our school cafeteria. We understand that some children have restrictive diets and may only eat certain foods. However, it is becoming a challenge and imposition on our front office staff, to deliver lunches to several students each day. It is also becoming a disruption to the learning environment.
I am kindly requesting that you send your child to school with their lunch before they arrive at school. If you must deliver their lunch please make sure their name is on their lunch and you arrive PRIOR to your child's class lunch time. For example if their lunch is at 12:30 pm you need to arrive by 12:20, so your child can pick it up from the office. Once the children have already arrived at lunch, our front office staff will not be responsible for lunch delivery. Please feel free to email me at rmatthews@bcps.org if you have any questions.
We thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.
NO YMCA FOR THE 23-24 SY! PARENTS PLEASE READ!
CES Families,
It is with regret that I must share that the YMCA will not be providing before and after care at Cedarmere ES for the 23-24 SY. I know this will have a huge impact on our families, as many of you rely on before and aftercare to support your scheduling needs. As a working parent in years past, I heavily relied on these programs to support a safe and trusted environment for my child., so I empathize with you. Unfortunately, I do not have much information, but I do know that the decision has been made.
If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to the YMCA, and be sure your voices are heard!
Lending Library at Cedarmere ES
Did you know that Cedarmere ES has a lending library is open. We have learning games, flash cards and books for your child. You can stop by anytime during school hours and check out items to borrow. Many times parents ask teachers, "What can I do at home to support my child?" We have some answers for you, and they are right here in our Lending Library. Please don't delay and check out some items TODAY!!!!

NOTES FROM NURSE TURNER
Please be sure your students have spare clothes in their locker. Students often have spills in the cafeteria, slip and fall outside and get dirty. We have limited sizes of clothes in the Nurse’s office and often must call parents or give student paper scrubs to wear for the day.
Send your student with a water bottle to school so they can have it with them while in class. This will not only keep them hydrated, but also help prevent headaches and upset stomachs.
Lastly, please do not send your child sick to school. Do not give your child medicine and then send them to school. A student with a fever of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or more should remain at home until they are fever-free for 24 hours without medications. If student is experiencing Vomiting and Diarrhea, they should remain at home for 24 hours after it has stopped.
Math Homework Helpers
Beginning the week of February 13, 2023, BCPS-TV will begin airing new episodes of “Math Homework Helpers Shorts.” These vignettes are short, timely math lessons aligned with the elementary math curriculum for students in Kindergarten through Grade Five. The episodes feature Joe Teng, Supervisor of Elementary Mathematics, alongside Max and Ollie, the fun, math-loving puppets from the long-running BCPS-TV show “Math Homework Helpers.” New videos will be released weekly through March 10, specific to each grade level (K-5). Teachers are encouraged to share these videos with their students. “Math Homework Helpers Shorts” can be viewed on Schoology, YouTube, Vimeo, and on BCPS-TV Channels Fios 34/Comcast 73.
On Wednesday, March 15, 2023, 4:30 – 5:30 pm, another episode of “Math Homework Helpers LIVE” will air LIVE on BCPS-TV Fios Channel 34 / Comcast 73, and stream live on www.bcps.org and the BCPS YouTube channel.
On March 15, 2023, students are encouraged to call in to get live, on-air help with their math questions during the show. Students can also submit question live via the chat box on YouTube. Prizes will be awarded to students who participate by calling or sending in questions via the chat during the live hour.

Safety and School Bus Riding
BCPS Transportation Information Page
The Office of Transportation is excited to announce that a BCPS bus transportation status page is live! This webpage for bus changes and delays can be accessed here: https://www.bcps.org/parents/transportation_status
LATE ARRIVAL TO SCHOOL AND EARLY PICK-UP
Tardiness to School
When students arrive late to school each day or are picked up early, they are missing components of their instruction. If a child arrives 60 minutes late each day, they have missed 300 minutes per week of instruction. In addition, it impacts the consistency of your child's daily routine. If your child is arriving late due to the BCPS bus tardiness, the teachers will continue to ensure they receive any loss instruction.
Late Pick-Ups
Please remember dismissal is at 3:15! It is important that your child is picked up on time! If you are unable to pick up your child on time, please look into using the YMCA! They have before and after care each day right in our cafeteria. They are open for this support from 7am - 8:15 and from 3:15 - 6:00 pm.
If your child has chronic tardiness or late pick-ups they will be referred to the Pupil Personnel Worker for further investigation of this matter. Please help us, help you.
Thank you for your support!
