Stanley Avenue School Newsletter
Term 2 Week 5 2022
From the Principal’s Desk
Kia ora Tātou
While we enjoy our Queen’s Birthday long weekend from the close of school today, remember that we will be busy working with all the teachers from the area on Tuesday at our Teacher only Day and that we look forward to seeing all the children back here bright eyed and bushy tailed on Wednesday.
Friday June 24th will see an important day for New Zealand, as we celebrate our first official holiday for Matariki. Here at school that week, we will be busy with activities to celebrate this important day in our history. We are very fortunate to have Ngati Tumutumu Trust coming in to work with our Tuakana Teina classes during that week.
On Thursday 23rd June we are planning to hold our Matariki Breakfast here at school so keep this morning free, more details to come.
Once again have a fantastic weekend with your whānau and stay safe.

From the Board Table
Greetings to our school whānau .
It is hard to believe that we are halfway through the year already! It has been a busy introduction to the year, with our Room 3-4 upgrade complete, and almost ready to show off to you all. Planning for future projects is underway, and we’ll share more details in the near future.
We have recently co-opted two new members to the board, Ed Wagstaff and Dave Wood, and we are excited to have their expertise to support us following Mark Baillie’s departure.
Board of Trustee elections are coming up later in the year, and we have set the date for our election as 7 September. More information around vacancies and nominations will be sent closer to the time. If you are thinking of joining us, feel free to get in touch with any board member to have a chat.
We are here to represent you. If you have concerns with what is going on in school, feel free to have a chat with the Principal. If you’re not satisfied with their response, you can contact the Board of Trustees via the school office. A copy of our complaints policy is available by contacting Kim in the office. All matters are treated confidentially. We’re here to help and to make sure that every child in our kura has the best experience we can provide.
As always, thank you for your continued support.
Sharon, Lori, Lisa, Kelvin, Ed, Dave & Cassie.

Tuakana-Teina at Stanley Avenue
Room 1 students, have been working together with Room 7 students, perfecting their weaving technique and then reading and writing stories. Room 3 students have been making beautiful stars from wool and digital Matariki stories with Room 8.
It is wonderful to see our Teina listening intently to our Tuakana and then producing their creations together. There is so much learning for both young and old alike..
