No more overdue notices!
Those of you who have been here in the past will be excited about this: we will no longer send library overdue notices to students in your SRT class!!
With the addition of student email for all students, we were able to set up emailed overdue notices. We have been doing this with seniors for a few years and it has worked great, so we are excited to continue this with all grade levels. A reminder from SRT teachers to have students check email though would be great. Thanks for your help!
Public Library Cards for Teachers & Students
Applications must be returned by Friday, October 11th to either library or Robyn Young's mailbox. The public library will then process the applications and give us library cards after Fall Break.
Students will also have the ability to use the e-resources of the public library. Each student will be able to login using the prefix 1207 before their student ID number and have access to Overdrive, Zinnio, Freegal and online databases.
This is a great partnership with the Avon-Washington Township Public Library and a real benefit to our staff and students.
Contact Robyn Young for questions.
Digital Media Exit Card
How can we quickly assess student learning using digital resources?
- A six-second Vine or Instagram video to capture the most critical six seconds of class
- A 16-second video to post to MixBit, YouTube's new video sharing tool
- A tweet that boils down the essence of the class to 140 characters (tweets don't have to be on Twitter, they could be posted on a board in the classroom - similar to this http://pinterest.com/pin/83949980524752415/
- A photo illustrating the key learning moment that can then be posted on a class Instagram account
- A question posted to a class Edmodo account (or MyBigCampus) inviting a continuation of the learning outside of class
Avon TV - Just like your DVR
Did you know that we can record TV shows here at school just like you do on your DVR at home? Just email rryoung@avon-schools.org with the channel and the date and time of your show and she will get it recorded.
To access recordings, go to AvonTV and click on Asset Library > High School. You will see the various departments there and can also view what has already been recorded for other teachers.
Use the News in Your Classroom - Free Lesson Plan Service
Newspapers in Education has a great new feature for teachers - weekly lesson plans using newspapers as informational text to support the Common Core State Standards. Lessons can be found at http://www.hspafoundation.org/usethenews/. See below for a video clip on how to use this.
Just a reminder - you and your students have access to the Indianapolis Star. Email rryoung@avon-schools.org for details.
