STALEY SOAR AWARD

The faculty and staff at Staley High School are committed to ensuring the overall success of our students and they are the reason our students are so successful here at SHS. We would like to recognize them for all they do for our students and for our entire school community. That is why we have created the SOAR award to be presented to nominated and winning employees each month. Both certified and classified employees can be nominated for the monthly SOAR award.

Anyone can nominate a member of the Staley team for this award by filling out the form below. The form is quick and easy! It asks for you to share how your nominee demonstrates Staley’s core values of Service, Ownership, Achievement and Respect while positively impacting our students and community. You can also share how the nominee supports the goals and mission of Staley High School and the North Kansas City Schools District.

Please take a moment when you are so moved to do so and recognize a Staley employee! SOAR award nominees and winners will be recognized monthly.

DOUBLE FEATURE

Falcon Feature

Each week we will ‘feature’ one teacher as a simple way to ‘celebrate and challenge’ one another. This week’s Falcon Feature is Mr. Shane Taylor.

Where are you from? Liberal, Kansas

What’s something interesting about yourself you wouldn’t mind sharing with others? My first

college degree is in Journalism and Photography.

What’s a celebration you’ve had this school year? Honestly, Mr. Taylor and I probably spoke for about 45 minutes and I’m not quite sure where to start. His stories were amazing and I could sit and chat with him for a long time. So, I’ll try to pick one thing out of our conversation and hope I remember correctly! He is a cancer survivor. Throughout that process, he encountered the toughest thing he’s ever had to battle. However, during that time he met some of the strongest and most amazing people. That experience has changed who he is as a person. It has changed his perspective on different things, including his students. From this experience, he’s able to help students gain a different lens/perspective on life by the conversations they have. These conversations help students shift their thinking to what’s most important and Mr. Taylor helps them get there.

What’s one thing you are challenging yourself with this year? While listening to Mr. Taylor, I

noticed (as the interviewer) that he is a very kind and caring person. He’s one that is often

thinking about bettering himself and spends quite a lot of time thinking of others. So it came

to no surprise to me that when I asked him this question, he said he wants to continue to be a

better person each day.

AND......

Ms. Dayna Fleischmann (aka Ms. Fish).

Where are you from? She was born in KC, graduated in Boliver, MO and moved back to KC in her mid-twenties.

What’s something interesting about yourself you wouldn’t mind sharing with others? (This list can be quite exhaustive as she has TONS of interests and habits.). However, she will stick with these two: stain glass artist and a runner. Last year she ran in three major races: ½ marathon, triathlon, and an extreme obstacle race.

What’s a celebration you’ve had this school year? This year she has spent time ‘rehabbing’ a house all by herself. She has begun graduate school, striving for a Master’s Degree in Library Science and a teaching certificate as well!

What’s one thing you are challenging yourself with this year? This year she’s spent quite a bit of time learning Staley, as this is her first year as a Falcon. Learning the ins and outs of a new school and generating student relationships is something she spends much of her time doing with ALL students.
