Week Of November 10th

Highlights From Last Week....

We had a crazy week of learning!

In Reader's Workshop, we continued to look at the picture AND the first letter of the word to see if it makes sense! We also worked on raising our level of talk with one another. We focused on listening to each other and building our conversation on what our partner said. We increased our stamina to 15 minutes to this week!

In Writers Workshop, we learned how pictures convey meaning. We created a class book with our pictures.

In Math, we started our unit on shapes! I am so proud of our learners!!

In Phonics, we practiced letter sounds and learned the sight words "He" and "Can", please practice these words at home. Our letter of the week was "D".

In Science, we learned about hibernation and migration. We learned what animals do in the winter.

In Social Studies, we learned about Veteran's Day and wrote a thank you note to a real veteran.

In our Second Step program, we continued to learn about our own feelings.

Our featured author was Karma Wilson. We used our strategies to retell some of her stories.
We started sharing our reading into a microphone this week. The kids LOVE reading!! Please see some of our reading below.

A peek at our learning this week...

This will be a short, but very productive week of learning.

In Reader's Workshop, we are going to continue to look at the picture AND the first letter of the word to see if it makes sense! We are going to try to increase our stamina past 15 minutes this week! We will continue to practice our other strategies as well: looking at the picture while we read, trading out books, practicing turning and talking.

In Writers Workshop, we will learn how to label our pictures to help us write. We will create a class book with our pictures.

In Math, we will continue our unit on shapes. We are learning what the shapes are and what characteristics make them what shape. For instance, a triangle has three sides and three vertices.

In Phonics, we will be practicing letter sounds and learning the sight words "He" and "Can", please practice these words at home. Our letter of the week will be "L".

In Science, we will be learning about simple machines. We will focus on wheels and axles and levers.

In Social Studies, we will honor a veteran during our Veteran's Day program.

In our Second Step program, we will continue to learn about our own feelings.

We will be reading several fall related books and using our strategies to retell some of the stories.
