Attendance Matters
Aside from it helping you succeed, it's also the law.
Attendance
Thank you for your interest in our school attendance policies.
Please call our attendance line: (530) 891-3133 or email attendance@inspirechico.org whenever your child is absent. Please provide the following information:
- Your Name
- Child's Name
- Date of the Absence
- The Reason for the Absence
All absences must be cleared within three school days or they will be considered unexcused. Thank you for your help.
Tardy Policy
It’s important to be to class on time!
Students must be in class at the designated time: if not, they will receive a tardy.
- A detention will be automatically assigned.
- Detention must be completed within 3 school days.
Written verification by a medical office with a date and time listed will excuse a tardy. Parents/guardians may clear a tardy with a phone call or note for personal reasons.
NOTE: this will be listed in Aeries as Unexcused per CA State Ed Code, but there will be no detention assigned. A note, phone call, or email from a parent/guardian will remove a detention if the tardy is not the student’s fault.
Leaving Campus
If your student needs to leave campus during school hours, they will need to obtain an off-campus pass from the attendance office prior to leaving campus:
- The Best Way - Send your student with a note to the office stating your student’s first and last name, the reason, the time they need to leave campus, and your signature (or send an email with the same information). Your student will receive an off-campus pass. The student will show their teacher the off-campus pass when it is time to leave class.
- Second Best Way - Call the office at 530-891-3090 and an off-campus pass will be sent to your student. Please allow as much time as possible prior to the appointment to avoid delays as it takes time to locate and deliver the note to your student.
- The Least Best Way - Stop by the office. Please allow as much time as possible prior to the appointment to avoid delays as it takes time to locate and deliver the note to your student, and additional time is needed for your student to pack up to leave campus.
Independent Study
ATTENDANCE MATTERS!
Q: IF MY CHILD HAS AN EXCUSED ABSENCE, DOES THE SCHOOL STILL GET FUNDED?
A: No. The school only receives funding when your child is present.
Q: WHAT DO I DO IF MY CHILD IS ABSENT?
A: We prefer you call or email the office prior to the absence, but you can call or send an email when the child returns explaining the absence.
Q: CAN MY CHILD REPORT THEIR OWN ABSENCES?
A: Only if they are 18 years of age. Otherwise, we must have a parent/guardian contact the office.
ABSENCE REMINDER: It is very important that a parent or guardian notify the office when a child is absent, when there is no verification within three (3) school days, the absences are considered unexcused and the student truant (Ed Code 48260). If you are leaving a message, please state your child's name, your name, date of absence and reason. Thank you for your help in clearing your child's absences!
Studies show that children who miss just one day of school fall two days behind in their school work.
