Hearne Elementary's Playbook
Week of January 16, 2018
Know What You Stand For
Jon Gordon asks on page 10 of You Win in the Locker Room First, "What do we stand for?" and "What do we want to be known for?"
At the start of this wonderful school year, we came together as a family to establish our vision statement, mission statement, and core values. These words are the foundation for everything that happens on our campus each day.
"Culture is not just your tradition. It is the people in the locker room who carry it on. When you have people who fit your culture and carry it on, it comes to life in a powerful way" (page 11).
You, Hearne Family, are the most driven, passionate, and caring educators in Alief! I am inspired by your determination to build a positive culture, maintain a contagious dose of Vitamin C, be consistent in your efforts to see your students succeed, communicate with effectiveness to make our campus better, connect with each other as a team to grow each day, commit to preparing our students for the world ahead, and caring about what we stand for and what we want to be known for.
Never forget:
You make a difference!
You matter!
Your students need you!
-Johanna Sanchez, Shon Brown, and Jose Serpas
Our Vision and Mission Statements- We are what we say we are! Make every day show it.
Hearne Elementary will provide a learning environment where all students are empowered as leaders and critical thinkers. We are committed to building positive relationships in a safe environment while creating life-long learners who are prepared for the 21st century.
Mission Statement
The mission of Hearne Elementary School is to guide our students to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to make responsible life choices and positive contributions in a diverse society. In collaboration with home and community, we respond to the needs of every child, ensuring that each child can and will learn.

FREE Workout Classes at the YMCA!
A message from Ms. James and Kelly Sullivan, our Wellness Champs!
Since this is the time of year that people seem to want to get active, please send the below information to your campus groups for free classes at the Alief YMCA.
Alief employees can attend the Alief YMCA for free exercise classes without joining the YMCA. Each employee can attend 2 free classes per week. This is for regular classes only and only at the Alief YMCA. Employees will simply go to the Alief YMCA welcome center, fill out paperwork, and they will be given a temporary card that they can use to enter the facility.
If you are interested in going, let us know so we can go together!!! The more the merrier!

Lost and Found Clean Up
Currently, we have lunch boxes (that still have food), sweaters, and jackets. Our goal is to have this area cleared. All items left will be donated.
Content and Language Objective Need to be Visible
We will revisit this for the next academic school year (2018-2019).
The ESL team did a great job presenting the difference between a content and language objective during PLC. Please revisit your notes as you begin posting these objectives in the January 2018!
Content objectives tell what you are teaching.
Language objectives tell how you will teach it using the 4 TELPAS domains (Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing).
Remember, we are an ESL district and campus. All classrooms should have Language Objectives posted each day.
Our UPDATED Campus Goal- Targeted Small Group Instruction
In order to achieve this goal this year and beyond, we are providing the proper training for all staff members so we can all be aligned as we tackle the Main Thing: Student Achievement.
