Class of 2019 - Top Ten
Sydney Grodsinsky - 4.160 Valedictorian
Sydney is the daughter of Gustavo and Dawn Grodsinsky. She is this year's Valedictorian with a GPA of 4.160. Sydney will attend Oakland University and wants to major in Nursing. Sydney has also committed to Oakland University to play soccer next season. She has received the Urban and Rural Schools Valedictorian Award from Oakland University.
Sydney has been a member of NHS for two years, student council, is a ski instructor, a nanny and was the 2018 recipient of the MSU Alumni Club Outstanding Junior Award.
Sydney has participated in soccer for Elite Clubs National League and received All-State recognition in varsity soccer.
Abigail Grossmeyer - 4.129 Salutatorian
Abby is the daughter of Beth and Troy Grossmeyer. She is this year’s Salutatorian with a GPA of 4.129. Abby plans to attend Saginaw Valley State University in the fall to major in Pre-law and Political Science.
Abby has been a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council for two years. She has held the coveted position of drum major leading an 85 person band for 2 years. Abby was a 2-time winner of the Bay Music Foundation Competition, she was second team all-conference in cross country, and a 4 time state qualifier in solo and ensemble. Abby has been a member of the cross country team for 3 years and a member of the soccer team for 4 years.
Olivia Watson - 4.121
Olivia is the daughter of Alan and Valarie Watson. Olivia is graduating with Highest Honors and a GPA of 4.121. She is planning on attending Saginaw Valley State University in the fall to major in English.
Olivia has been in the band for 4 years and is a section leader, varsity basketball captain, soccer captain, all-conference in soccer, and competed in cross country. She is a member of the art club and was a senior court representative this year.
Emma Sollner - 4.119
Emma is the daughter of Irene and Dave Sollner. She is graduating with Highest Honors and a GPA of 4.119. Emma will be attending The University of Michigan to major in Chemistry and pursuing a career in Dentistry.
Emma is a member of the National Honor Society. She has participated in soccer, basketball, cross country (captain), band, and robotics.
Sierra Yell - 4.102
Sierra is the daughter of Jacqueline and Francis Yell. She is graduating with Highest Honors and a GPA of 4.102. Sierra will be attending Delta in the fall as a member of the Hemlock Early Middle College program.
Sierra has been a member of the National Honor Society, student council, soccer, cross country, tennis, band, robotics, and drama. Sierra was also a member of the Saginaw Valley Great Lakes Bay Regional Institute.
Phillip Spannagel - 4.038
Phil is the son of Jessica and Jerry Spannagel. He is graduating with Highest honors holding a GPA of 4.038. Phil will attend the University of Michigan on a full ride Hail Scholarship majoring in Computer Engineering.
Phil has been a member of the National Honor Society, band, a MSBOA State qualifier, student council, drum line section leader, drama club and soccer.
Rosemary Sorensen - 4.018
Rosemary is the daughter of Carrie Sorensen. She is graduating with Highest honors holding a GPA of 4.018. Rosemary will be attending The University of Nebraska in Lincoln where she has received the Nebraska Legacy Scholarship to major in Chemistry.
Rosemary has participated in tennis, drama, equestrian, National Honor Society, student council, and SLS.
Ethan Ludwig - 4.017
Ethan is the son of Cherry and Chad Ludwig. He is graduating with Highest honors holding a GPA of 4.017. Ethan will be attending Saginaw Valley State University where he has received the Founders Scholarship to major in Spanish and ESL Education.
Ethan has been a member of NHS, tennis, drama serving as a student director, bowling, golf, robotics, grilled cheese club, and drumline section leader.
Madison Lounsbury - 3.964
Madison is the daughter of Stacey Langworthy and Jacob Lounsbury. She is graduating with Highest honors holding a GPA of 3.964. Madison will be attending Western Michigan University on a Bronco Merit Scholarship to Major in Speech Pathology and Business.
Madison has received all TVC conference honors and has been a member of the NHS, student council, band, solo and ensemble medalist, and the drama club president.
Jordan Weigold - 3.926
Jordan is the son of Linda Gruber and Todd Weigold. He is graduating with Highest honors holding a GPA of 3.918. Jordan plans to attend Delta College in the fall and study to be an Electrician.
Jordan has been a member of the National Honor Society, student council, a band section leader, and is a 2-year captain of the wrestling team.
Kara Grove - 3.925
Kara is the daughter of Jim and Amanda Grove. She is graduating with Highest honors holding a GPA of 3.925. Kara will finish attending the Hemlock Early Middle College program with Delta College.
Kara has been in National Honor Society and has participated in drama, book club, volleyball, and tennis.
Mock Trial
Saginaw County Judge Jurrens commented on the team as a whole saying he wished the visitors of his courtroom were as prepared and well-presented as we were. Congratulations Mock Trial: Paige Walle, Jacob Kelley, Kaitlyn Marshall, Piper Nichols, Matt Loucks, Rebecca Buszka, Abby Boos.

Awards Night - May 2nd, 7:15pm in HS Gym
Students are notified by invitation in the mail.
Last Day - May 21st
Students will attend 1-4 hours then walk to Richland Twp. Park for a potluck lunch. They will then return to the high school at 12:30-12:45pm to receive their gowns. They will wear their gowns and walk over to the Middle and Ling schools for a walk through. Students that attended St. Peter will go there for a walk through.
Cap & Gown Handout - May 21st
Caps & gowns will be handed out on the senior’s last day for their walk through at the other schools. Fees must be paid in full. If you require your cap & gown for SCC ceremony or a church function prior to this date, please call the office.
Exams - May 21st & 22nd
For those students that need to take them. Students arrange date and time with teacher.
Rehearsal - May 30th, 9am in HS Gym
All seniors planning on participating in Commencement program need to attend rehearsal. Each student will receive 8 pre-seating tickets at rehearsal. These tickets allow the holder to enter the gym on June 2nd, 1:15pm-1:45pm, all others will be allowed in at 1:45pm if space is available. Those students participating in Baccalaureate will stay after to rehearse for that ceremony.
Baccalaureate - May 30th, 7pm in HS Gym
If any seniors are interested in performing any kind of special talent, a sign-up sheet will be placed on the table outside the office beginning in May. All acts must be approved by Mr. Green.
Commencement - June 2nd in HS Gym
Sunday, June 2nd at 2pm in the high school gymnasium. Students are required to be in the student center at 1:15pm in order to received NHS sash (for NHS students), flowers, program, etc.

4/1/19 - V Baseball vs. Reese - Game 1: L (0-1) Jonas Kanouse went the distance pitching 6 innings with 7 K's with 0 earned runs on 5 hits and a walk. Alex Ostrowski and Dylan Lagrow each had a base hit and Mason Countegan hit a double. Game 2: W (12-4) Mitch Hingston pitched 4 innings with 5 K's with 4 earned runs on 4 hits and 9 walks. Alex Ostrowski pitched one inning of shutout ball with 1 K and 0 earned runs with 0 hits. At the plate - Alex Ostrowski was 1 for 1 with a base hit and 3 walks and scored 4 runs. Mitch Hingston was 1 for 1 with three walks and scored 3 runs. Jonas Kanouse was 1 for 2 and was hit by a pitch and scored 2 runs. Mason Countegan was 2 for 3 and scored a run. Payton Tenant, Brayden Green, Connor Hahn, and DJ Ewald all contributed 1 hit.
4/1/19 - JV Baseball @ Reese - Game 1: T (6-6) and Game 2: W (4-3)
4/2/19 - JV Soccer vs. Ovid-Elsie - W (4-0) Alex Grzenia had the first hat trick of the season with 3 goals. Haylee Near also scored 1 goal. Marissa Messing had 1 assist. A strong defensive performance by Sami Seidel, Shelby Collins, Bethany Beck, and Marissa Messing aided Alexis Guerrero in completing her first shut out of the season with 8 saves. Great start to the season ladies!
4/3/19 - V Tennis @ Chesaning - L (0-8)
4/3/19 - V Soccer @ Clare - T (0-0) The game was dead locked even with both sides generating 13 shots on goal. For the Huskies, Madison Sutliff had seven of those shots and Emma Sollner generated three. Abby Tennant had 13 saves and with the help of her defense, shut out the Pioneers.
4/3/19 - JV Soccer @ Clare - W (7-0) Alex Grzenia scored 5 goals, Noelle Kenny scored 1 goal and had 1 assist, and Claire Watson scored 1 goal off from a penalty kick. Our strong defense only allowed 1 shot on goal which made for an easy shut out for Alexis Guerrero. Keep up the great work ladies!
