HOWL
Where our purpose is learning & making connections
April 30, 2020
Connecting with Each Other
- In an effort to better support you, we are inviting staff groups to a coffee chat in the mornings. Here is a schedule we put together. You will get an invitation from Lisa to a meet next week. It is voluntary, mostly social in nature and we just want an opportunity to check in with you. Please consider dropping in.
- We want to encourage everyone to stay connected. The office staff is sending a video to you to post in google classroom every morning. The videos are around a theme for embracing joy. Next week our theme will be Community. Thank you for sharing the videos with our students
- We LOVE our seniors! Challenge for the upcoming week
- Want to be a GUEST SPEAKER? Want a GUEST SPEAKER in your classroom. Either email Lisa or add your information to this link. If you volunteered at the staff meeting to help Bev- please fill out the spreadsheet
CONNECTING WITH OUR LEARNING
In our distance learning model, we have identified three priorities for learning:
TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF - priority #1
- Here is the survey of the week. Please indulge yourself.
- In celebration of Teacher Appreciation, you are invited to a virtual happy hour celebration on May 5 at 3:01. The meet code is : wuk-dhqn-mog
- Ways to stay Healthy, Educated, & Entertained while we are at home
- Here is an ongoing list of ways to stay connected with others while you are at home
CONNECT WITH STUDENTS - priority #2
- Creative and fun ways to engage our students in Virtual Learning
- Here is a link full of resources as we embark on virtual learning, please feel free to add to this list- with an explanation about the site to share with everyone.
- Here is an informative video: all things Jamboard, thanks to Mark
- Who wants to send a postcard to their students? Fill out this document to let us know your name, how many postcards you would like and your address so we can get you the postcards. Please do this by Monday so they can be mailed to you next week!
- David shared this video that can inspire students and teachers
PROVIDE FEEDBACK - priority #3
- As more and more of us are using Google Meet as a good way to connect and support learning we are asking you to use this schedule to coordinate meet times so we do not overlap. The times you entered last week are still on the Meet Sheet, but if you have additions or changes, please make them by noon on Friday.
- Please remember that we expect our students to spend 20-30 minutes per day on any class. A Google Meet can be scheduled for 20 minutes and last longer if student engagement and learning makes it necessary.

Connecting with Our Future
Our Purpose
Our school goal: “During the 2019-2020 school year, Washington Middle School will connect with others, connect to our own learning and connect to our future. Our connectedness will be measured by smiles, celebrations, feedback and learning targets.”
Autonomy
As we continue the next phase of our school year, please refer to the distance learning guide for middle school.
This week shared feedback from parents, action steps and updates to the system including a review of our priorities. Please continue to find new and innovative ways to engage and connect with students - and share them with all of us.
As you come across questions and new discoveries, please consider that we are here to help and only a phone call, email or video conference away.
