Explaining Unit 2

Humans Migrate

Humans migrate in order to find better living conditions for themselves. People are always trying to find places with better wages, healthcare, and protection. There are also people that migrate seasonally, like birds do, to avoid winter weather.

Cultural Mosaics

By humans migrating to different locations in the world they are creating cultural mosaics wherever they go. Whenever a new person comes to America, for example, they are diversifying the cultural mosaic by bringing in all the customs and traditions from their home country. This is the reason we have some of our holidays today .

Balancing the Forces of Cooperation and Conflict Among Different Social Groups

Balancing the Forces of Cooperation and Conflict Among Different Social Groups is something that happens daily. It involves people of different beliefs and social statuses working together to get something done or compromising on something to better everyone.

Real World Connections

Humans Migrate

In class we watched videos of people who were working in factories of other countries making small wages that were trying to make enough money in order to move to a country with better living conditions.

Cultural Mosaics

Whenever one country allows in people from other countries it diversifies the cultural mosaic of that area because it brings in new languages and customs.

When we did the simulation in class it showed how us how hard it is for lower social classes to make a change in the way their country is run. In order for the peasants and guerrillas to try to become richer they had to negotiate with the army and wealthy or else they would be killed to prevent an uprising against the government.

How it Relates to My Life

Humans Migrate

When I was younger I lived in Massachusetts but my family decided to move to New Hampshire because they could buy a nicer house and they were offered better jobs in NH.

Cultural Mosaics

My grandparents were born and raised in Portugal and moved to the US when they were 18. They speak fluent Portuguese, that is something they brought to the US that influenced the cultural mosaic.

Each day at school you work with different people. Whether they have more or less wealth than you or different beliefs than you, you still find ways to work together.

Bullets and Ballots Responses

  • During the simulation I was apart of the peasants group. We had pretty much nothing except for a lot of votes as there are a lot of peasants.
  • During the simulation we worked together with the Guerrillas in order to have more power. When the army and wealthy noticed that we were working together they killed the Guerrillas in order to get rid of their military power.
