We made it...

Despite the tidal wave of inspections (and interference this created), I am glad to state that it has been a very enjoyable and successful one; one might say, a historic one!

It's rather unprecedented to have 2 inspections inside one term; however, now that we've got that monkey off our back, we're entering an extremely exciting time for the school...

We're still working hard to future-proof our curriculum, namely by ensuring our knowledge organisers are in place for our entire 2-year curriculum cycle, building upon our recent successes with the leadership of RE, art, PE and maths by cascading the progress and approach made across other subject areas, and continuing to embellish our exceptional outdoor learning provision and environment.

Next term will be another busy one with new curriculums/topics to be launched, lots of PE events, weekly swimming for all of KS2 pupils, and of course, our Y6 children will be sitting the KS2 SATs tests (they've been working immensely hard and we're already uber proud of them)!

I think for now though, it's worth taking stock, reflecting on a challenging but magical journey this term and thoroughly enjoying a well-earned Easter break!

Art is always a popular subject with children, giving them the chance to explore and experiment with more freedom and autonomy than is possible in some other subjects.

Since September 2022 we have revised our Art curriculum so that there is even more opportunity for learning the skills of art such as drawing, sculpture and 3D work and painting.

This term we have had a real life wire sculptor come into the school and work with the children making multi-coloured flying birds. The children then used these skills by creating with wire and pipe cleaners.

We have also learned about Henri Matisse - how he painted all his life until he became ill as an old man when he began ‘painting with scissors’ and created beautiful collages. All our Easter cards are based on this process and we hope you enjoy them!

Next term the focus is on painting landscapes. Throughout the school, children will be looking at various artists from contemporary Amazonian painters to Hockney, Constable and Turner.

Lee has enabled us to keep providing an exceptional offer for play and learning by creating some really unique, bespoke and important social spaces for the children, namely, the playground ship, corner garden teepee, sensory garden cabin, EYFS teepee and playground puppet theatre.

These spaces are fundamental for developing children's social, emotional, and physical skills not to mention the exploratory, creative and imaginative play that comes out of them!

We're pleased to let you know that we've been shortlisted for the Kellogg’s Breakfast Club Awards!

Mr Robinson said: “We are really excited and incredibly proud to be shortlisted in this year’s Kellogg’s Breakfast Club Awards. Writing our entry gave us a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the fantastic children who attend every morning, not to mention the hard-working staff.

If we’re lucky enough to win the £1000 award for Best Breakfast Club in the East of England, we’ll spend the prize money on new and exciting food options, and maybe some new and exciting activities.”

On the 13th April, our wonderful RBL Team are holding a 'Beetledrive' event at Haughley Football Club. Tickets are £2 per person which includes tea, coffee and prizes. The bar will also be available. All families are welcome so we hope to see you there!

Please ensure your child has a healthy snack in school to have at break time - e.g., a piece of fruit, carrot sticks, muesli bar, yoghurt tube. No chocolate bars or crisps please, and nothing containing peanuts.

Younger children (YR to Y2) have fruit or vegetables provided by the School Fruit & Veg Scheme.

Please note, that any snacks brought in to school will be collected by the Class Teacher and handed out at break time. Therefore, please can you ensure that any tubs, bags, etc are named.

We are an allergy-aware school and would like to remind all families that there may be pupils in school with a nut allergy. If a child with a nut allergy comes into contact with nuts, or with a pupil who has eaten nuts, then this could lead to an anaphylactic reaction. Anaphylaxis is a severe and potentially life-threatening reaction to a trigger such as an allergy.

Because of this, the school cannot accept products containing nuts to be provided in lunch boxes or for eating at other times.
