Message from the Principal
JAJHS Families,
Good afternoon! It was great to get in a full week of learning this week!
This week saw JAJHS visiting the Think Big Space at the High School, 8th graders learning about 9th grade scheduling processes, finalizing mid-year MAP tests, competing in tournament games, and exploring science labs. It was a full week!
Please be sure to review the important information below regarding upcoming events and activities. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
I hope that you and your family have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mr. Malany

High School Scheduling for 8th Graders
On January 30th & 31st, Mrs. Wolfe, our high school guidance counselor, met with 8th grade students at the JAJHS to discuss scheduling information and graduation requirements. Packets and registration sheets were sent home with students. Please see below for remaining important dates:
February 17th: 8th graders give completed scheduling forms with parent/guardian signature to their Social Studies teacher.
February 21st & 22nd: Guidance staff will be in 8th grade Social Studies classrooms to finalize 9th grade schedules and input to SchoolLinks. We will be using the schedule forms signed by parent/guardian.

It's Time to Dance!
Student council will be hosting our first dance of the year on Friday, February 10th, from 7-9 P.M. The cost will be $5 at the door. Opportunities to chaperone and donate refreshments can be found here. Our theme is "Masquerade", and the dress is semi-formal, though students can wear what is comfortable (but still appropriate).
Our PTO will be offering concessions at the dance, so students are welcome to bring extra cash to purchase specialty items such as soda, popcorn, and candy. There will be some complimentary snacks and drinks available as well.
IMPORTANT NOTES: All students are expected to remain at the dance once they have arrived. Only current JAJHS students are permitted to attend. Please make sure you have arrangments to pick up your child promptly at 9:00.
Please let Mrs. Garner know if you have any questions.
JAJHS Washington, D.C. Trip
If your student is registered to go on the trip, the second payment of $200 is due by Friday, February 10th. Students who have registered for the Washington D.C. trip will be receiving additional information soon. Any immediate questions or concerns can be directed to Mrs. Kaumeyer (kaumeyem@japioneers.org).
Pioneer Planners
Having a student planner is an essential part of success at JAJHS. Planners are used as hallway/restroom passes. In each class, teachers explicitly share with students what reminders to write in their planners. We believe that developing these executive functioning skills are an important part of helping students grow.
As we enter a new semester, this is a great time to check in on this. Please ask your child to see her/his planner. If it has been misplaced or is not in a functional condition, replacement planners can be purchased in the JAJHS office for $5.00 with checks being payable to “Jonathan Alder Junior High School.”
Thank you for your help with developing this important life-long skill.
