Welcome back to School
2017-2018
Reflecting on 2016-17
Looking back on our year together, I continue to be amazed at how well we collaborate, create and communicate with our students and families. We continue to focus on providing our students will will provide a relevant and engaging education and will graduate students who are collaborative, creative, effective communicators and critical thinkers.
#weareunderwood
We continue to be a team and model for students and parents the power of collaboration and working together. How do you support a colleague?
Conscious Discipline
Last year we had extensive PD on Conscious Discipline with Kim Hughes and implemented systems and structures of an adult first model. What are you willing to commit to improve your students learning environment?
Multi Tiered System Support
We embarked on our second year of MTSS implementation. Each team was able to work through some of the Team Initiated Problem Solving to create action items to make a difference for our non-proficient students in ELA and behavior support. How are you going to prevent the predictability of our students results?
Simon Sinek - Start With Why - TED Talk Short Edited
My Why:
is for children (my two in particular) to become life long learners that continue to evolve, think, create, and be a productive and successful member of our society that will be better then the one that was created before them. Why are you in education and why are you at Underwood GT Elementary?
Looking ahead to this school year!
Welcome Back Letter with Agenda
Continued learning more about implementing Conscious Discipline
We will continue the work with Kim Hughes in implementing systems and structures to support the emotional well-being of students and adults. How are you willing to grow to support the social/emotional well-being for all people?
Refocus and reviewing of Common Core Standards
With shifts in ELA and math standards through the North Carolina Standard Course of study, we are going to spend time and energy on "what do we want our students to learn". How are you providing students opportunities to be Career and College Ready?
Academic Vocabulary
We will be extending our learning about increasing students vocabulary -- "CCSS defines academic vocabulary as the words that are traditionally used in academic dialogue and text. Specifically, it refers to words that are not necessarily common or that children would encounter in conversation". How are we (or you) extending our students vocabulary?
