PTA Reflections Celebration
Spring is in the air! As we head into the Spring season, schools all over Michigan will once again begin the process of completing our state assessments for students in grades 3-8 and 11. M-STEP is the acronym for Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress.
Given the online nature of this assessment, your child will need to become familiar with the digital tools that the assessment system offers. To prepare your child, we are working with classroom teacher and our media specialist to offer exposure to these practice items that model the use of the digital tools. If you would like see the practice items or help your child practice with the online tools, you may do so through the Michigan Department of Education site: https://wbte.drcedirect.com/MI/portals/mi/ott1. Please note that this site must be viewed using Google Chrome as your browser.
A schedule of the state assessment windows is included below so that you can plan for any absences due to appointments or other things that may not be able to be done outside of the school day. A more formal schedule of the dates of testing at Dublin will be shared at a later date. Please note that there is a window of assessment for each grade; students will not be testing every day within this window.
Third Grade Testing Dates:
(Language Arts and Math)
April 25-May 13
Fourth Grade Testing Dates:
(Language Arts, Math, Science)
May 9-May 27
Fifth Grade Testing Dates:
(Language Arts, Math, Social Studies)
April 11-April 29
Please share with your child the importance of these assessments as they are an indicator of your child’s progress within the Michigan Standards and assist us in knowing the progress of our student body at Dublin Elementary. If you would like to know more about the M-STEP, please visit the Michigan Department of Education M-STEP website: http://www.michigan.gov/mde/0,4615,7-140-22709_70117---,00.html.
It is extremely important that children get an adequate amount of sleep and eat a nutritional breakfast. These two factors will help students be better prepared to take the test. We are also suggesting that third, fourth and fifth grade students bring a water bottle as well as a nutritional snack to school on the days of the M-STEP test.
Students need to stay in school all day on the dates listed. Please make
every effort to have your child arrive to school on time during the M-STEP test.
Additional information will be shared as it becomes available from the state. Thank you for taking the time to explore the resources and discuss the nature of this assessment with your student.
End of the Third Marking Period and Report Cards
Sky Zone and March is Reading Month
March is National Reading Month and at Dublin we like to do several things to help celebrate being readers! This year we have some very exciting news. Sky Zone Canton is offering a special promotion to help celebrate our young readers. Sky Zone is offering a Book Zone Reading Program, FREE, where your child can earn free jump time!
Here’s how it works:
1. Each student receives a form
PLEASE CLICK HERE FOR THE FORM!
2. Student reads 5 books (you can read them to your child too, for our younger readers) during the month of March
3. Parent signs the bottom of this form to validate their child’s achievement
4. Bring this form back to school and receive a signed bookmark from your teacher, to receive a free 30 minute jump!
5. Take the bookmark to Sky Zone Canton location and have fun!
Thank you for helping your child enjoy reading! We are excited to participate in this neat Book Zone Reading Program.
District computer network system to be down for 3-4 days over spring break
Phase III of the Safety, Security and Technology bond is underway and this includes an overall and update of the “head end” room at the Educational Services Center. This will be done beginning at 5 p.m. on April 3 through April 6, over the District’s spring break.
What does this mean? This means the District email service, Skyward/Family Access, the District’s complete phone system/service and District computer network systems will not be functioning. The District website will be operational as it is web-based and not housed in our computer system.
If you have an urgent need to communicate over these dates, please use this temporary District email: WalledLkSchools@gmail.com
