Griffin Guide

October 7, 2022

Dear Families,

Thank you for such a huge support in our Hispanic Heritage Program! We are making the needed adjustments to improve our community events each time. We look forward to continuing to work together this year!

Our mission is to "Educate every child every day; whatever it takes," and our vision is "Excellence for every student and staff member!" This is our promise to you and your scholar.

Here at Highlands we are Unleashing New Opportunities everyday because WE ARE UNO!

Sincerely,

Ms. Griffin

Attendance Goal of 98%

Parents,

We have set a goal to have students reading at grade level by the end of the year. This is only possible if students show up to school. We are trying to reach a 98% attendance rate each month.

We had a decrease across the campus toward the end of September. Let's work together to ensure we are sending only healthy scholars to the building. We can reach our goal!

WE CAN DO THIS! WE ARE UNO!

HISPANIC Heritage Month

Every student brings unique cultural strengths to the classroom. Recognizing and nurturing those strengths encourages not only success but also promotes an open-minded, supportive environment that celebrates cultural differences.

We will celebrate culture all month. During the month, students can dress in traditional Hispanic wear on Wednesdays, Hispanic Countries Professional Sport wear on Fridays, or colored shirts (red, white, or green) representing the flag of Mexico with jeans.

WE ARE UNO!

Highlands PTA Updates

Thank you for the parents who attended out first PTA meeting! If you missed it, do not worry there is still the opportunity to participate!

In order to start our PTA here at Highlands, we had to have two volunteers commit to being officers. We are fortunate enough to have Rolicia Foster and Sharron Williams step up to the plate! Mrs. Foster has agreed to serve as president, and Mrs. Williams will serve as the treasurer!

Families continue to be on the look out for information on joining PTA and membership dues! Make sure you have completed the volunteer process. See below for information on becoming a volunteer in Cedar Hill ISD. We are excited to continue to build a strong school and home partnership.

SCHOOL LUNCH UPDATES

Parents and Guardians,

Thank you for making this a great start to the 2022-23 school year.

This letter is to remind you that there have been school meal changes for this school year. As you may know, CHISD and schools across the country provided free breakfast and lunch for all scholars during the COVID pandemic. Starting this school year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is no longer allowing school districts to provide free lunch for all students.

You may have received previous communication regarding prek and kindergarten scholars receiving free lunch this year, that is incorrect. I apologize for the miscommunication. All elementary scholars lunch price is based on their free/reduced application eligibility status.

Our cafeteria staff will never deny our students a nutritious lunch, but after three meal charges scholars are served an alternative meal.

As a CHISD parent you have a few options for your child’s lunch meals:

  • Send your child to school with a nutritional sack lunch from home

  • Complete the free and reduced lunch form to see if your child qualifies for free lunch at school. CHISD will take applications and use family income to qualify scholars for free, reduce-price, or paid meals.

  • Allow your child to purchase their lunch at school. You will need to create an account on MyPaymentsPlus and add funds to your child’s account. You can access MyPaymentsPlus here.

CHISD school lunch prices for 2022-23 are:

Breakfast Meals- Free for all scholars

Lunch Meals

  • $2.75 - paid lunch
  • $.40 - reduced price lunch (for those who qualify)

Thank you for your attention to this matter. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Ms. Griffin
