HALLOWEEN AT EV
Many thanks to our families for donating time and goodies for our Halloween celebrations. We enjoyed seeing everyone at our annual Halloween parade, and we were elated that the rain cooperated.
Missed the parade and fun? Visit our EV Facebook page to see the AM Kindergarten parade and the PM Kindergarten and Grades 1-6 parade. Both were streamed live on 10/31.
CYCLE DAYS
CONFERENCE DAY INFORMATION
Parent-teacher conferences sign-up is available on Skyward starting on November 8 at 9:00 a.m.
As a school district, we plan specific days within the school calendar for conferences to be held as we believe it is important to communicate with families. The fall conferences will be scheduled for November 25-26 from 2:05-8:00 PM with additional morning hours provided for Dr. Senseny's Kindergarten parents. Phone conferences are a possibility on these days, as some families may have difficulty scheduling time to leave work/commitments to travel to school.
Grade 1-6 students will report to school on November 25 and 26 from 8:30-11:50 a.m.
AM Kindergarten students will attend school on November 25 (No PM Class)
PM Kindergarten students will attend school on November 26 (No AM Class)
Please note: Kindergarten students may ride their assigned bus home at 11:50 AM.
Students in grades K-4 are scheduled for 20-minute conferences with the homeroom teacher, grades 5 and 6 student conferences are 10-minutes, and special area teacher conferences are up to 15 minutes (to provide adequate time to travel between rooms). In Grades 5 and 6, one teacher can provide the data for all core subjects. To meet specifically with the ELA and/or math teacher, schedule the appointment with the appropriate teacher(s).
For those families unable to schedule online, letters are sent home.
DIRECTIONS FOR SCHEDULING CONFERENCES IN SKYWARD
- Log-in to Skyward
- If not a bookmarked site, one method for parents to enter is through the parent portal on the OJR website:http://www.ojrsd.com/parents then click the Skyward link.
- Click on the “Teacher Conferences” link on the left-hand side of the screen
- Select “preferred conference times” for each teacher conference, for each child
- There are two choices, select “All Conferences” at this point.
- For Grades K-4 students, under the “Classes” column, only click on the teacher’s name listed with homeroom teacher designation to schedule one conference time for all core area classes. Click on “Schedule a time” to open a second window. Scroll through the times and select one that is “open” and click “select” on the far right.
- The user will be directed back to the original Skyward “Family Access” page and the conference scheduled will show beneath the name of your child.
- Ignore multiple listings of teachers with specific subject areas.
- For grades 5 and 6 students, under the “Classes” column, click on the teacher’s name listed with homeroom teacher designation to schedule one conference time, if desired, and the teacher will have the information to discuss both the ELA and Math performance as well as the other core areas. Click on “Schedule a time” to open a second window. Scroll through the times and select one that is “open” and click “select” on the far right.
- If a conference time is desired with both the ELA and Math teachers, then schedule two appointments.
- The user will be directed back to the original Skyward “Family Access” page and the conference scheduled will show beneath the name of your child.
- Ignore multiple listings of teachers with specific subject areas.
- The ELA and/or Math teacher will also review the science and social studies information/data.Do not schedule separate appointments for these content areas.
- For phone conferences, schedule an appointment as noted above. Then, email the teacher that the time is for a phone conference and request the appropriate number to call.
- Special area teachers can be scheduled for conference times in the same manner, if desired, on November 25.
- For families with multiple children, each child's account can be viewed separately, if desired. At the top left corner of the window, next to the Skyward Logo, is the line "Family Access" and below it "All Students"; click on this red "All Students" and options will drop down.
If needed, view a brief parent tutorial of the process for making conference appointments (created in 2014) using the link below accessed through the Chrome or Firefox browsers: http://ojrsd.ed.voicethread.com/share/6222071/
Please feel free to contact the East Vincent office at evoffice@ojrsd.net, 610-469-5106, or your child’s homeroom teacher with any questions or concerns. Families without online access are addressed individually utilizing a paper format.
OLWEUS BULLYING PREVENTION PROGRAM - MORNING MEETINGS
October was National Bullying Prevention Month. Students and staff at EV learn about bullying through the OLWEUS Bullying Prevention Program. Last week during Morning Meetings and during the school-wide assembly on October 25, we reviewed vocabulary related to bullying, how to spot bullying, how to be an upstander, and more.
Think your child is being bullied? Think your child is a witness to bullying? Think your child is bullying others? We have bully boxes. The bully boxes are a safe, frequently checked place to take and to submit "Bullying Incident Report" forms. We also have our "Bullying Incident Report" forms online: CLICK HERE.

STAFF SPOTLIGHT
LEARNING SUPPORT TEACHER, MRS. SHARRER
Hi! My name is Becky and I have been lucky enough to call East Vincent my home for almost 13 years now. I received my bachelor's degree in Elementary and Special Education from Bloomsburg University. Shortly after graduating, I started as a learning support teacher at East Vincent, and I knew this was the profession for me! I then moved on to receive my Master's in Special Education from Penn State. When I'm not at EV, I enjoy spending time with my husband (Adam) and my two little love bugs - Codie (5) and Delaney (3). We love being outdoors and spending time with our large extended family. The school year is off to a great start! I'm looking forward to another fun year!
LEARNING SUPPORT TEACHER, MRS. BLACK
This is my 12th year as a learning support teacher in the Owen J. Roberts School District and my 3rd year at East Vincent Elementary. I love my job and enjoy getting to see my students grow as learners year after year. I live in the East Vincent township with my husband of ten years, David, and my two daughters. My older daughter, Abbey, is in the 3rd grade at East Vincent, and Emily, my younger daughter, is in the 1st grade. In my free time, you will see me cheering at my daughters' soccer and lacrosse games. I also waitress on weekends at the Spring City Hotel. I am truly blessed to work in this district and invested in making our school the best it can be! Go Wildcats!
