OBE School Improvement Council Member Needed
The School Improvement Council (SIC) serves as an advisory committee to a school's principal and faculty. Unlike the PTO and other voluntary school organizations, councils are mandated by South Carolina law to exists in every public school building. SICs play a key role in the education of our state's children, bringing together parents, educators, and community stakeholders to collaborate on the improvement of their local school.
What is the role of a SIC member?
Council members work collaboratively with the school to develop and implement a school improvement plan, monitor and evaluate success of the plan, and write an annual report to parents about the progress of the plan. Council members also assist the principal in writing the narrative for the School Report Card.
Who May Serve on a Council?
Almost anyone is eligible to serve on a School Improvement Council. Parents, teachers, business partners, and community leaders are all eligible to be a member of the SIC. Members must be elected to the council.
The OBE School Improvement Council (SIC) has a vacancy for the 2021-22 school year. If you are interested in serving on OBE SIC, please click here and complete the short form. You can only nominate yourself, not other people. Please submit your interest by Monday, October 25. If more than one person is interested the vacancy, a school-wide vote will be held.
