SHARK SHOUTOUTS
Today OSA had its Thanksgiving meal and it wouldn't have happened without the help and support of John Larson. Every week, John supports Oak Street Academy's Family Meal Friday. Inevitably, every Friday he takes extra time to set up and clean up after our swedish chef cooking tornado. Every Friday, he greets us with a smile, chats with the kids, and never complains about the inevitable mess they're about to make. On this particular Friday, John came in extra early to let me in to get to the ovens. When we couldn't get them to work, he stopped his day to help me figure it out. He is one of a kind! I couldn't do my job without you! Thank you John!! -Ms. Jutras and Oak Street Academy
Shark Shout out to Cam Perry and Ms. Martin for coming in early to help OSA pull off our Thanksgiving meal! We could not have done it without you! Thank you. -Ms. Jutras
I just want to thank Theresa Kaplan for her help and for constantly keeping me updated on different classes and assignments. It has helped me so much in Academic Center, thank you for all you do! -Ms. Michelina Oliver
The School Store would like to send a big shout out to Bernadette Waystack for restoring "Frank" back to his handsome self! Thanks. -Mr. David Burke
- We’d like to send a HUGE Shark Shout out to The Harwich Police and Fire Departments. While watching the Monomoy Boys Soccer play in their final playoff game for the seniors as they fought for the Cape & Islands title, the excitement and momentum just built up with the team, families and Shark tank fans. Nine seconds before the game was to end the power went out at the Old Townhouse fields. The game came to a standstill. After 15 minutes in darkness, goals were moved to another lighted field to finish the game. It was confusion to say the least! When the last whistle was blown we were so proud of the boys and how they fought to win but we all noticed some of the excitement was lost due to all the chaos and confusion. For children that had already lost so much since March we were not surprised as disappointment has been nothing new to them. In any case, as that bus pulled off of exit 10 to a surprise of waiting police cars and fire trucks, these boys gained their excitement back as they took the long way through town. By the time the caravan made it back to the High school, you could hear the team’s cheers along with the sirens. A priceless moment for all of us. As parents we are thankful and humbled by the kindness shown to our boys by the HPD and HFD. This is what community is all about. You definitely made a memory those boys will not forget and we are fortunate to live in town that cares so much about their youth. Also a special shout out to OC and Bobby for standing on the sidelines to cheer the boys on and the personal escort home! -Terry & Katie Deveau, parents
Shark Shoutout - Thank you Select Choir for your performance for the Celebration of Excellence! -Mrs. Ginnetty
- A huge shark shout out to Ms. Creedon for baking a beautiful cake in honor of our parents-to-be: Steve Cass, Caitlyn Hall, and Jen Stevens. Thank goodness we are in the U.S. or the Great British Baking Show would steal her away as the next contestant! Her creativity and generosity was appreciated by all. -Mrs. Rachel Barnes

WEEKLY ATHLETICS ROUNDUP
WEEK OF 11/16/20: CAPE AND ISLAND LEAGUE TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIPS
BOYS SOCCER - Sam Higgins
After a weekend of preparation and training, the boys traveled away from home on Monday to play Sturgis East. In the regular season, both games between the Sharks and the Storm ended in a 0-0 tie as both teams had yet to concede to each other.
To start the game, the Sharks found themselves on the defensive side of the ball most of the time. Shots throughout the 80 minutes were fired at Senior Captain Sean Deveau. A scoreless first quarter brought on an even tougher second quarter. After continuing the battle, the Sharks gave up a penalty kick midway through the quarter. All trust in the keeper, Sean Deveau makes a stunning save to keep the game scoreless.
Coming out of halftime the Sharks knew they needed to create more scoring chances. The third quarter brought a more even distribution of possession between the teams. However, a Sturgis East goal would leave the Sharks down a goal with a few minutes left in the third quarter. A show of great character and composure, the boys moved the ball down the field with Troy Olson taking the first shot. A difficult one to handle, the ball came loose and Damarr Beckford came up big and put the Sharks on the board making the game 1-1 as the third quarter ended. Heading into the final quarter of the season, the momentum was on the boys side and they worked as a team to press and defend. More shots and clutch midfield play came from Duncan Ramler, Colin Moore, and Miles Boyle. With his ability to get himself into space, Troy Olson made no mistake this time as he hit a clean shot past the Storm goalie to give the Sharks the lead with the clock running out. The Storm needed to push the ball upfield for a last effort, but Damarr Beckford made a great interception, and to put the cherry on top he made the final score 3-1. Yes, we count that.
A fantastic team performance that was fun to watch and full of passion. Stellar performances to everyone who played and contributed. Shoutout Seniors Miles Boyle, Duncan Ramler, Josh Coughlan, Ryan Schepman, Trey Cox, Sean Deveau, Sam Higgins, Damarr Beckford, and Mike McKeen who played their final high school games and brought the banner home. Great season Boys, much love.
FIELD HOCKEY - Amy Hinesley
During the championship game vs. Sturgis West, the field hockey girls played hard and took the win with a final score of 11-. To start off, Caroline DiGiovanni put two in the net within the first two minutes. To respond, Sturgis West’s Maya Garcia scored one within 9:14 left in the second quarter. This was one of only two shots that goalie Caitlin Bouvier faced throughout the entire game. With strong defenders Nikki Awalt, Alexis Culver, Jane Howard, and Lanie Fritsch, the Navigators struggled to reverse the ball into the Sharks’ circle. During the second quarter, the scoreboard was up to 3-1 with a goal from Susannah Brown. After the first five minutes of the third quarter, Helen DiGiovanni knocked the ball in off of a pass from Carly Dimock. Later in the quarter, Helen put in another goal and Ella Reeves added two more to put the Sharks at an 8-1 lead before the fourth quarter. Throughout the game, with the ball being on Sturgis West’s defensive side for the majority, goalie Abbie Savage-Shanahan made 19 saves. In the final quarter, Carly Dimock, Emily Layton, and Nikki Awalt scored two more goals to clinch the win.
