Jenks High School

September 2017

Principal's Message

Welcome to another great year at Jenks High School! We are off to a great start this year, and we have many things to celebrate. We are very excited at the opening of the new Dining Hall. As many of you know, our student body had outgrown our old cafeteria, and our students now have ample room to enjoy lunch in a tremendous facility. In addition to the Dining Hall, we are also celebrating so many classrooms that have been newly renovated. All of the classrooms in Building 6 and about half of the classrooms in Building 5 have been newly renovated. The remaining rooms in Building 5 will be renovated next summer. Of course, none of this would be possible without the school community's passage of bonds, and we greatly appreciate everyone's support so that we can continue to offer the kind of facilities and resources that our students need and deserve.

We are also celebrating the selection of Shala Marshall as a Finalist for State Teacher of the Year. She has done a superb job of representing both JHS and Jenks Public Schools, and we are grateful for her leadership and how she seeks to serve students, parents, and colleagues everyday. The Oklahoma State Teacher of the Year will be announced on September 19.

We are celebrating the arrival of eight students and two teachers from Chengdu, China. They are from our sister school at Chengdu #7 in the Sichuan province. The Chengdu students and teachers are staying with American hosts from our school, and the students will be with us for three weeks. In March 2018, Jenks students and teachers will spend three weeks in China learning about their culture and education system. It truly is an amazing partnership and experience for everyone involved.

We have so many great things that happen throughout the year at JHS. You can follow us on Facebook or Twitter @jenkshs to stay up to date. Also, please sign up as an Observer on Canvas if you have not already (this is the best way to stay up on your student's learning). More information on Canvas can be found directly below, along with some important dates and information.

To a Great Year,

David Beiler

College & Career Central

College and career readiness is extremely important to the faculty and staff at JHS. We want to make sure that your student is given timely information and mentored so that he/she can prepare for "the 13th grade." Whatever your student's ambitions or dreams, we want to help.

During Advisory this past week, your student was given one of the following presentations. Much of this information pertains to important dates and information surrounding college and career readiness.

Please click on the appropriate link and see the information that was presented to your student. Taking some time to discuss it with your student can go a long way in helping you, JHS, and your student work together to prepare for your student's future after high school.

Back to School Night

Tuesday, Sep. 12th, 7pm

205 East B Street

Jenks, OK

This event allows you to follow your student's schedule and meet all of your student's wonderful teachers. Showing up to Back to School Night will help you have insights into your student's learning and how you can support them!

You should have received a letter from JHS that allows you to fill in your student's schedule, along with maps of the campus. If you did not, please get your student's schedule, including classroom locations, and we will get you where you need to be when you show up for this event!

Jenks Food Bank Food Drive

One of our school clubs, DECA, is sponsoring the 11th annual food drive for the benefit of the Jenks Food Bank. From September 11 through September 22, students will be competing by Advisory and by club to see who can raise the most money or collect the most food. Winning groups will have the opportunity to participate in the charity dodgeball tournament on November 15. Please encourage your student to contribute whatever he/she "can" (sorry), and thank you in advance for supporting our community!
