Hampton Cove Community Compass
Weekly Highlights for the Classical, Christian, Community
WEEK 5
Classical
“How often have you heard someone conclusively state, ‘I can’t draw’? It is accepted
that only a few are blessed with the gift of drawing and that no excuse is necessary for
not being able to draw. You can even hear successful painters, designers, and artistically
inclined people make this statement, but with additional embarrassment and frustration.
This attitude can change, whether you want to teach yourself or others. One gentleman,
shaking and sweating at the beginning of a one-day workshop, admitted to the group he
was shocked to display such real fear over the idea of possibly being unable to draw. He
said he was sorry he had come; he was sure he’d fail. By the end of the day, he was beaming with pride at his accomplishments and said that if he could draw, anyone could.”
—Mona Brookes, Drawing with Children, (3-4)
Foundations to Challenge
This week the students will learn about perspective in drawing. You can further these lessons at home with the Prescripts Cursive Sentences and Art Lessons: Medieval and World History. Students will use these lessons in perspective to draw world maps in Challenge A and to understand and appreciate works of art in Challenge II.
Christian
See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in
knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, To devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, And in cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of workmanship.
