Due to the fact that we are wrapping up our purple Social Studies book, we have decided to do social studies every day next week (Tues, Weds, Thurs) rather than alternating with writing! This is our last unit before the book is complete, and then we will move into May with a stronger focus on writing! While the kiddos will be completing each lesson and doing the Flipgrids, we strongly encourage them to continue writing their comics and finishing them up next week so that we can share them with classmates! Mrs. Williams has recorded a short writing video to emphasize the importance of continuing the comics and the plans moving forward! Thanks for your flexibility!! Reach out with any questions!

- Immigration activity & post on flipgrid
This is normally an activity we would have the kiddos do at home during this unit and bring to school to share with the class. It is super fun and the kids learn so much about their ancestors! I hope you all participate! The document we use for this activity is below along with an example.
We have recently begun our CKLA Knowledge unit on immigration. This is such a fun and important topic to teach and learn about! Our country is unique in how it was formed, and how it continues to evolve over time. While we talk about immigration, we think it is important to understand where we come from.
This is supposed to be a fun activity to build understanding about our background and how it connects to our learning. This does not have to be specific, but rather start a conversation with your student.
We would like the students to write where they’re ancestors immigrated from (to the best of your knowledge) on both their mother’s and father’s sides of the family. We also added an “interesting fact” section where you can share the history of your family that is unique. Such as, “my great grandfather was the cousin of Elvis Presley” (not true by the way).

Flipgrid
Please click on your teachers name, enter password and upload your video so we can make sure every student understands how to use this platform! We would like for this to be done by Monday March 30th so we can check in with families if they are having trouble with this process before online learning starts Monday. Thanks again for all your support in this process!
The question this time is: Share how your spring break went! What did you do? What was fun? Did your original plans change?
UPDATE- ONLINE CLASSES
We will be recording videos that your child can watch at home. We will also be connecting your child to access much of the curriculum online, so they can digitally do the lessons and the independent work as well. Our expectation is 4 lessons per week in each subject: reading, math, and social studies/writing. We will pre-record lessons so you can access them when it best suites your family's schedule, however we do ask that you make roughly 30 minutes weekly available for your child to have a LIVE conference with his/her teacher and peers, via Zoom. Please spend some time this week getting familiar with Zoom. Here is the link to sign up, it is free and easy- you can sign up with a current google account as well! This will allow our classes to have face-to-face chat time to help maintain relationships and strength through this unknown time! Your teacher will reach out with more information regarding when these LIVE weekly sessions will take place!
There will be a day where students can come pick up hard copy workbooks and school supplies, that date is TBD. We will also be taking grades throughout these lessons, however the format and specific grading guidelines are still being determined. More information to come!!
As always, we greatly appreciate you! We recognize that online learning has and will come with challenges, but without your support at home this would not be possible- so thank you!! We hope to help make this as smooth as possible and continue to help our Owls be successful!
