After a scoreless first quarter, both teams finally put some points on the board! The Tigers scored a touchdown early in the second quarter. Then the Gamecocks were successful in picking up a few 1st downs in their drive to the end zone, but ultimately couldn’t convert on 3rd down at the 26 yard line and had to settle for a field goal. Both offenses then struggled to put more points in their own column. After a series of penalties called against the Tigers, they had their backs up against the end zone. With the offense lined up on their own two-yard line, the USC defense blitzed the Clemson QB and sacked him in the end zone for a safety. The Gamecocks then had an opportunity to get the go-ahead touchdown before the half ended, but instead gave up a pick six with the Tigers returning an interception 65 yards for a TD. Tigers missed the extra point in the remaining seconds, but it was an exciting end to the half!

Score at the end of 2Q: Tigers 13, Gamecocks 5.

Montessori's Mini Maestros

Montessori is once again sponsoring the Mini Maestros program at GAMAC's Sunday concert - "Tango Caliente." It is being held today, Sunday November 14, in the Henderson Auditorium at the Rainey Fine Arts Center on the Anderson University campus at 3:00 PM. It's a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon! Would love to see you there!

MSA Covid Testing Update:

I am happy to report that MSA has completed over 500 Covid tests since the Covid-19 Saliva pilot testing program began in late August. This has proven to be such a valuable tool to identify and isolate Covid-19 cases and prevent the spread of disease within our MSA community.

MSA Covid Testing will continue to be offered on Monday and Friday mornings from 7:30-11. Covid-19 Saliva PCR testing is available for all MSA Employees and Lower El thru High School students.

If you have symptoms or a known exposure, a drive thru option is available. Upon arrival, call the MSA Main Office number and alert the attendant that you are outside. I will come out to you as soon as possible.

Please have your QR code ready and remain masked while receiving your testing kit. If you are interested in testing and have not registered previously, please email me directly for registration instructions at schoolnurse@msasc.org.

Additionally, a parent needs to be present and offer assistance in specimen collection for the younger age groups.

***Please note that occasionally, the testing dates may alter for a variety of reasons. Any change to the schedule will be announced prior to the testing date, if possible.

Covid Vaccine for Children now available.

Recently, the CDC Director Rochelle P. Walensky, M.D., M.P.H., announced the endorsement of the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices’ (ACIP) recommendation that children 5 to 11 years old be vaccinated against COVID-19 with the Pfizer-BioNTech pediatric vaccine. CDC now expands vaccine recommendations to about 28 million children in the United States in this age group and allows providers to begin vaccinating them as soon as possible.

Please contact your healthcare provider to discuss the vaccine and if it is appropriate for your child. MSA will NOT offer a Covid vaccine or a flu vaccine clinic this year. Locally, the best resource for receiving the Covid-19 vaccine and the flu vaccine is AnMed Health, your child's healthcare providers office or your local neighborhood pharmacy.

***Flu vaccine

Flu season is quickly approaching. In order to prevent the spread of flu within our MSA community, we ask that you speak to your healthcare provider and discuss if you or your child are candidates for the flu vaccine. Amid Covid, many healthcare providers are offering drive thru flu clinics. Contact your provider for more information.

Currently, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the CDC recommend the flu vaccine. I am sharing the links below regarding the 2021-2022 flu vaccine. You should get a flu vaccine before the flu begins spreading in your community. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies that protect against flu to develop in the body, so make plans to get vaccinated early in fall, before flu season begins.
