The Weekly Howl
St. Francis Catholic School - Saturday, December 9th
As you will see in this edition of The Weekly Howl we have been quite busy here at St. Francis Catholic School this Advent. This next week we have many of our traditional holiday events scheduled to occur.
On Monday the students in PreK through 5th Grade will be traveling to the St. Francis Thrift Store to go Christmas shopping for their family members. By now you should have turned in a signed permission slip with a sealed envelope containing the cash you would like your child to shop with. If by chance you have not turned those in, then please turn them in first thing Monday morning so your child can participate.
Thursday at 6:30pm in the Gymnasium will be our annual Advent Concert. This will be the first concert organized and conducted by our new music teacher, Mr. Tom Tiehel. Count on an awesome show!!! Keep an eye out for more details about when and where to drop your child(ren) off before the concert.
Friday morning will be the popular FSA event, Breakfast with Santa! Feel free to come and bring any siblings that would like to attend and see Santa! More details are in the FSA section below.
Sunday, December 17th at 9:00am will be the last School Family Mass of 2017! It will be a wonderful way for our school community to gather in celebration of the Eucharist together before everyone breaks for Christmas Recess! Please have your child dress in their school mass uniform.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and stay warm!!!
Sincerely in Christ,
Brian Pope

Kindergarten Musical Explorers
Musical Explorers was developed in partnership with Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute and "builds basic music and life skills as students learn songs from different cultures, reflect on their own communities, and engage in music exercises that incorporate lessons in history, geography, literacy, mathematics and social studies." This past Monday the Kindergarten traveled to Savannah's Lucas Theater to see a live performance of some of the musicians and the genres they have been learning about this year.
2nd & 7th Foundation Visit
On Monday, December 4th, the 2nd graders had a special visit from a few Heritage Academy student athletes. Ava VanMarter, a junior at Heritage Academy and former St. Francis student has teamed up with The 2nd & 7 Foundation to make sure our 2nd graders know the importance of reading. The 2nd & 7 Foundation is a non-profit literacy program that provides FREE books and positive role models to kids while encouraging young athletes of the community to pay it forward. Across the country, The 2nd & 7 Foundation has donated over 175,000 books since it started in 1999. We are happy to be joining communities across the USA who are teaming up with local student athletes and helping to emphasize the importance of reading with the 2nd graders here at St Francis.
If you would like more information, check out The 2nd & 7 Foundation website www.secondandseven.com or feel free to contact Sara Boyden, National Program Coordinator for The 2nd & 7 Foundation and parent to 2 of our SFCS students.
5th Grade Technology Integration
The 5th grade students were working on their iPads this week. Mrs. Safe taught the students how to use the iPad application Pages and how to use it to illustrate what they have learned in class.
Honors Physical Science
This week the 8th Grade Physical Science students had the The Great Roller Coaster Challenge. Students working in teams and were given criteria needed to design and construct a roller coaster made out of card stock. They were "judged" on height, length, time of descent, stability, cost and total dissipated energy. After they were told of the challenge, they used a Roller Coaster simulator online to get ideas of how potential and kinetic energy are used to make the coaster function safely.

SFCS Annual Appeal - Please Return Your Reply Card and Help Us Reach 100% Participation!!!
We need your help to reach our goals for the Annual Fund Appeal. Last year our Annual Fund provided $44,000.00 in financial assistance which helped 46 students attend St. Francis Catholic School. Thank you to everyone who has already participated! So far we have raised $25,000.00 toward our goal of $75,000.00.
It is also our goal to have 100% of our faculty, Advisory Council members, and parents support the Annual Appeal. Participation can be in the form of prayer and/or monetary donation. So far we have accomplished 100% participation of the SFCS faculty & staff! Excellent job!!!
We ask that you return the reply card by mail, School Office, or Parish Office indicating how you are able to support this very worthy cause and to reach our goals. Thank you in advance for your support and participation.
