A Message from Mrs. Cengel
Dear Oak Terrace families,
The start of the school year is less than a week away! We are so excited to see our students- either virtually or in person! As a reminder, our first day of school is Thursday, September 3. Please also mark your calendars for a virtual meet and greet with teachers on Tuesday, September 1 from 2:30-3:00. Your child’s teacher will be sharing information about this in the next couple of days. Stay tuned!
We will continue to share important information with you via email on a regular basis. This includes the daily self-certification message that will be shared with you from CrisisGo (see below). If you have not already done so please make sure that your email address is accurate and up to date in Infinite Campus. This is critically important and we appreciate your prompt attention.
We look forward to seeing everyone next week!
Best regards,
Amy Cengel, Principal
Student Schedule
Regardless of whether your child is participating in the Hybrid (50% in person/ 50% at home) or the Virtual (100% at home) program the schedules are basically the same. Children will work with their classroom teacher for one half of the day (AM or PM). During the other half of the day they will work independently on asynchronous learning tasks and/or meet with their specials’ teachers.
To help understand this a little better, let me clarify the difference between SYNCHRONOUS and ASYNCHRONOUS learning.
Asynchronous Learning….
Is done independently.
May involve watching a video, doing an activity in a workbook, reading, practicing a new skill or working on a project.
Does not have to be done at a specific time. While we recommend that these activities be completed during what would be the “typical” school day, we understand that some families need a little more flexibility.
Synchronous Learning...
Is “Live” instruction that takes place either in person or virtually through Zoom.
Must be done at the scheduled time.
Is interactive
May be done as a whole class or in small groups
If your child is in the AM GROUP (Virtual or Hybrid) he/she will follow this schedule:
AM:
Meet with the classroom teacher(s) during that morning session (in person if participating in Hybrid and over Zoom if participating in full virtual)
PM:
Work on asynchronous assignments in the afternoon (Math, ELA/SLA, Specials, Social Studies, and/or Science)
Have Zoom lessons in Art, Music, PE, and/or Library
If your child is in the PM group (Virtual or Hybrid) he/she will follow this schedule:
AM:
Work on asynchronous assignments in the morning (Math, ELA/SLA, Specials, Social Studies, and/or Science)
Have Zoom lessons in Art, Music, PE, and/or Library
PM:
Meet with the classroom teacher/s in the afternoon (in person if participating in Hybrid and over Zoom if participating in full virtual).
To help you with your planning, we have attached the SYNCHRONOUS learning times for all Art, Music, PE, and library for every teacher. These are the times that your child will need to be on Zoom. Your child’s teacher will share more specific information about your child’s ASYNCHRONOUS work within the first week of school.
Self- Certification Using CrisisGo
Each day parents are required to self certify that their child has no symptoms of COVID-19 and has not been exposed to anyone with symptoms!
**This must be done by 8:00 AM every day for students in the hybrid AND virtual models.**
Starting Monday, you will receive a daily email message from CrisisGo asking you to certify that your child is symptom and fever free. Even though school doesn’t start until Thursday we highly recommend you begin right away to get used to the process. Again, this must be done every day by 8:00 AM even if your child is absent.
Please check out the video below for a quick tutorial on how to use CrisisGo.
Snacks and Meal Service
Snacks and Meals
Grab and go lunches and breakfasts will be available to all students this year. Children who are participating in our Hybrid program can order breakfast/lunch every day from their teachers at the beginning of class. Before they leave they will receive a bagged lunch and breakfast for the following day.
For students in the virtual program grab and go breakfasts and lunches are available for pick up during the following times:
7:00-8:00 AM
3:30-4:30 PM
Due to new safety guidelines and the shortened school day, students should not bring a snack to school.
