Students as Young as 5th Grade Earn High School Spanish Credit
On Thursday, May 25, GISD students ranging in grades 5-8 were given the opportunity to earn high school credit in Spanish. The test was scheduled by the GISD curriculum and instruction department, who saw the benefit these students would receive by earning high school credit prior to entering the 9th grade.
A total of 153 students were tested, and an incredible 64 of these students earned high school Spanish credit through the credit-by-examination testing process. Student testing resulted in 21 students earning Spanish 1 credit, 16 students earning Spanish 1 & 2 credit, and 27 students earning Spanish 1, 2, and 3 credit. In the 27 students receiving credit for all three levels of Spanish, four were in 5th grade, seven were in 6th grade, seven in 7th grade, and nine were in 8th grade
Congratulations to all of the high achieving students on this huge accomplishment!

Ayala Completes Math Teacher Mentor Program
"We were trained on how to incorporate different types of technology in the classroom, and how to let our children explore math and come up connections on how to solve problems," Ayala said. "By doing this, they are able to understand the "WHY" behind math instead of just following steps that are given by the teacher."
In addition to the two week program last summer, Ayala attended three Numeracy trainings in November and December. To complete the 100 hours of training, the group did several book studies throughout the year and shared lessons that each did with their students based on what they had learned at Region 11.
