Holicong Weekly Update
Back in the Game!
April is a special month at Holicong as we have the opportunity to celebrate Autism Acceptance month with our students, staff, and entire community. At Holicong we pride ourselves in educating our students and creating an environment where everyone is treated with respect as we recognize both our similarities and our differences. When it comes to autism there are many questions and sometimes misinformation or stereotypes and our goal this month is to both educate students & community about ASD (autism spectrum disorder) in a variety of ways.
Noted animal behavior scientist Temple Grandin sees the world visually and in pictures and has said, "the autism spectrum is as wide as the rainbow itself." This quote will make more sense to our students over the next few weeks as they participate in different activities and hear from our own staff & students. We appreciate those who are willing to share their stories and experiences as someone who is on the spectrum or has a loved one on the spectrum - as you know, we feel learning is more foundational when we can make a personal connection. We can say that any of the work we do this month always comes with respect to our students and families. We have done a variety of events in the past such as our ASD awareness night and previewed, "Life, Animated" and last year staff and students honored individuals who had a positive impact on their lives. We are also sharing below two Faces of Holicong segments that will help us kick off the month. Please check the announcements, website, and our updates for more information this year and please reach out to me directly if you have a story you would like to share!

Edficiency Update - You saw the email last week and this week we are rolling out Edficiency for I & E at Holicong! If you have not seen the video, please take a look - Edficiency Student Training (wevideo.com).
- This week in Resource - We will focus much time on this as students will watch Edficiency training again now that it is live, navigate the site, and get in a routine of checking their Canvas pages and signing up for relevant sessions or requesting specific teachers based on need.
Day of Silence - This Friday the GSA at Holicong is supporting the Day of Silence. Students will have the opportunity to sign a pledge and participate on Friday. The day of silence occurs annually the 2nd Friday in April and the purpose is to spread awareness about mistreatment of LGTBQ individuals and a symbol to represent the silencing of LGTBQ students.
Spring Sports - Please continue to check the athletic website and calendar for all spring sports updates! We love the spring sports...but with April showers come cancellations and please know that we post all of these online and make multiple announcements during the school day directly to students. Thanks in advance to Mr. Rittenhouse for coordinating all of our sports practices & games at Holicong and with other school!
Rosica U-Knighted Fore A Cause - There are still spots available for this fundraiser for the Rosica Family golf outing next Friday. Please click here for registration - #TeamRosica Bryan Rosica.
Staff Coming and Goings – We have had a few staff leave for new opportunities (and new arrivals) and others join the Holicong team. Please see below for these updates!
- Mr. Montgomery – Mr. Montgomery is joining us from Tamanend and will be our 1st shift utility working alongside Mr., Fulmer and we hope that all our students & staff give him a warm welcome!
- Mr. Clark – Mr. Clark was our 1st shift utility all year and will be moving to the elementary school.
- Mrs. Dufresne – Ms. Dufresne and her husband are eagerly expecting and Friday was her last day for the year. We will send pictures as soon as we can!
- Mr. Evans – Mr. Evans will be taking over for Mrs. Dufresne for the rest of the year. We are lucky to have him as most of our students know Mr. Evans from the past 2 years as part of the Holicong team.
- Mr. Nelsen – Our students know Mr. Nelsen from working with Mr. Cochran, Ms. Zimmerman and Ms. Bauer in the Health & PE classes the 2nd semester and he will now be with us all day as he transitions to a building substitute starting tomorrow.
- Ms. Daley – Ms. Daley was the replacement for our building substitute for Mr. Blough...and she will now be joining him at Lenape for an English position. We wish her luck!
Congratulations to Julia Nace - Congratulations once again to Julia who had an opportunity to celebrate with her family, Dr. Lucabaugh & Dr. Malone, Mrs. Thomas and art teachers Ms. Doubet & Mrs. Ritter last Thursday at a special event at the Bucks County Intermediate Unit (pictures above). We celebrated on Friday but initially did not realize that only 1 student from the entire district is chosen (from all grades) to represent CB...so this was "kind of a big deal!".
Congratulations to our National History Day participants and winners - We have been scrolling this on the daily announcements but wanted to give these students a shout for their accomplishments. The students listed below will be moving on to the state level competition in Scranton.

SAFE2SAY & SAP (Student Assistant Program) - Students received an overview of these resources in…resource class. We have posted the links directly to both of these resources on the Holicong homepage on the right side under School Links - Holicong MS / Homepage (cbsd.org).
Bryan Rosica was a teacher and counselor at Buckingham Elementary School in CB for 26 years. He was diagnosed in December 2020 with ALS (aka Lou Gehrig’s Disease), a neurodegenerative disease with no known cure. ALS care can annually exceed $200,000 and is not covered by insurance. Bryan and his wife Lisa have three amazing children and he has dedicated his life to being a loving father, husband, and active member of the community. Please help us in supporting the Rosica family by eating at Ooka (order the Rosica roll) or participate in the U-Knighted for a Cause golf outing!
