Superintendent's Message
April 14, 2023
Clever Families,
It is hard to believe how this school year is flying by! We have five weeks of school left, and they are going to be packed with activities, field trips, and end of year testing. Our last day of school will be May 19, and summer school will begin May 30.
If you’d like to learn more about summer school, please use the link in the newsletter below for information and registration. We recently received information from DESE and the USDA that breakfast and lunches for all students during summer school will be free of charge. Please see more information on this also in the newsletter below.
I would like to take this opportunity to let you know about a survey from The State Board of Education and DESE. The survey is designed to gather feedback from a variety of stakeholders — including educators, families, community members, and business leaders — on the areas of focus that should be prioritized in Missouri’s public PK-12 education strategic plan. The insights gathered from the survey will be used to guide the state’s education policies and initiatives over the next several years and your participation will help ensure that the Board and DESE have a comprehensive understanding of the needs of students, families, and educators across the state. The survey is easy to complete and should take only about 10 minutes. Your responses are completely anonymous, and your input will be kept confidential. You can access the survey here.
Legislation is being considered which could impact our district. Open enrollment has passed the Missouri House of Representatives and will at some point be voted on by the Missouri Senate. If you would like learn more about this piece of legislation, I invite you to read the information linked here.
As we look ahead, our Long Range Planning Committee will be looking at our District CSIP to develop plans to meet the needs of our current and future students. In order to help us accurately predict what those needs will be, the district will be partnering with RSP School Planning Experts. RSP utilizes a customized Student Forecast Model (SFM) to project future student enrollment in a 5 or 10 year time frame. The projections can be viewed at a district-wide level, by geographical area, or by an individual facility. Variables that are integrated into the model include historical enrollment data, birth data, development activity, demographic trends, facility capacity, and other data sets unique to the District. We look forward to exploring and sharing the information RSP provides with the community.
As you can see, there is much happening on the state and district level, and we will continue to keep you updated and informed. I know that it is only through a partnership between the school and our community that we can move forward to best serve the needs of all our students.
Sincerely,
Dr. Breeden
Superintendent
Clever R-V School District
