Spanish 1A & 1B News:
I would like to introduce to you the ASU Student Teacher, Michael York, that will be with us this semester. Mr. York is a born and raised Gilbert resident! He went to South Valley (not that we hold that against him) and graduated from Campo Verde (so it’s appropriate he’s at Greenfield--get it? Campo Verde=Greenfield? jaja). He is off to a wonderful start and and can’t wait to see him implement all the fun activities he has planned for our students.
Now that registration is getting closer, please email me if you have any questions about Spanish course selections. I have spoken to all the classes so they should know what to sign up for, but in the event you would like more information, I’m just a click away!

News From the Health Office
SLEEP
Most teens need between 8-9 hrs. of sleep each night. Unfortunately, many don’t get this amount. And the lack of sleep can greatly affect their daily life.
Experts say that during the teenage years, their circadian rhythm gets “temporarily reset” causing them to fall asleep later and wake up later. This plays havoc with early school start times. Some teens may fall asleep after midnight and still have to get up early for school; only getting 6-7 hrs. of sleep per night. A few hours of missed sleep may not seem worrisome but it can compound to make a significant sleep deficit over time. Sleep affects everything from paying attention in class to their mood. Experts have tied loss of sleep to poor grades and poor ability in athletics. Lack of sleep can also contribute to feelings of sadness and depression. Sleep helps to keep us physically healthy, too.
Signs that more sleep may be needed:
Difficulty waking up in the morning
Inability to concentrate
Falling asleep during classes
Feelings of moodiness and sadness
What to do:
Set a regular bedtime
Exercise regularly—but not right before bed
Relax your mind
Power down cell phones, computers and other electronic devices
Schedule “sleep” in your 24 hr. day to feel rested and ready for a new day!

News from the Library
All around Greenfield Jr. High students and teachers will be collecting used markers that are ready to be discarded for the ColorCycle program. The markers will be sent to a facility where they will be converted into clean fuel. This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, cook meals and more!
Please help support our efforts by sending your kids in with any used markers you may have around the house – any brand is fine. A drop-off box is located in the school library for your child to deposit the markers.
Thank you in advance for participating! With the help of parents like you across the country, the ColorCycle program can keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year.
Remember, don’t throw out that used marker—ColorCycle it!
Donations are needed for the library:
- Junior high age appropriate games (chess, Connect4, checkers, Legos, Boggle, Memory, Uno, Apples to Apples, Bubble Talk, etc.)
