FAC Weekly Update

September 30, 2022

Good Afternoon, FAC Family

I hope you and your family are staying safe during the storm. We have some events that need to be moved due to today's school cancellation - both the music field trip to the Sigal Music Museum and the FAC Visual Arts faculty show reception are being rescheduled. Stay tuned for new dates for these events.

We also have some phenomenal professional performances on the schedule for the month of October, starting with the Parrish Cello Trio on Saturday, October 8. Join us for some evenings of incredible music in the Sutherlin Recital Hall!

Here’s the latest from the halls of the FAC…

This Week's Student Leadership Lesson

Over the next few weeks, we will highlight The Four Agreements, a New York Times Bestseller for over a decade.

The Third Agreement: Don't Make Assumptions

We have the tendency to make assumptions about everything. The problem with making assumptions is that we believe they are the truth. We could swear they are real. We make assumptions about what others are doing or thinking — we take it personally — then we blame them and react by sending emotional poison with our word. That is why whenever we make assumptions, we're asking for problems.

We make an assumption, we misunderstand, we take it personally, and we end up creating a whole big drama for nothing. All the sadness and drama you have lived in your life was rooted in making assumptions and taking things personally. Take a moment to consider the truth of this statement. The whole world of control between humans is about making assumptions and taking things personally.

Getting the Word Out About the FAC

This week, the Fine Arts Center served as host for two District-level meetings - the middle school Principals visited us on Tuesday, and the high school Assistant Principals and Administrative Assistants visited on Wednesday. Each group toured the building and received information on our programs. Our goal is to create a team of advocates for the FAC at the middle and high school levels who have an understanding of our school offerings and school culture. We hope to generate a greater level of awareness of the FAC throughout Greenville County so that more students with a passion for the arts can pursue their dreams with us!

GCS Job Fair

HR Operations will host a job fair on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, from 5-7 pm at Wade Hampton High School. This hiring event will focus on hiring bus drivers, bus aides, custodians, and food service operators.
